How to find reasonable prices in the Trading Center

How to find reasonable prices in the Trading Center

(OUTDATED: this was written back when there was no way to sort by price!)

So, I've noticed that in the Trading Center it's really hard to figure out what a good price is, and the same things are sold for wildly different prices!  I think this is mostly because there is no way to sort by price and it's not clear what the sorting even is, so depending on when you search for an item there might be very different prices for it on the first page. (Although sometimes people are probably overpricing things on purpose - I'd look out for a lot of the trades that advertise as "cheap" because in my experience they mostly aren't...)  Unless that's just what markets normally look like?  It seems pretty confusing to me.

It took me a while to figure out how to find the best price for an item, so maybe other people are having trouble with that and could use a guide!

1) to find the best price for an item: go to Search Trades -> the Items tab, click on the Contains field, type in your item, and click on it to get a checkbox. Then make a guess about the price, type that into the Buyout field (SC or GC as you prefer), click Apply Filters. If you see no results, make a higher guess. Do you see more than one page of results at different prices? If yes, pick the cheapest of those prices, type that into the Buyout field, click Apply Filters again. Repeat until there's only one result page and you've found the lowest price on it. Done!

Now you can buy a Lucky Foot for 25-35 SC, instead of the 100 SC I keep seeing them on the front page for...

Note that if you want to search for a new item, you have to uncheck the first one in the Contains field first, or else it'll search for both of them in one trade (which you might want to do sometimes but probably not that often).

This only finds the best price for a single item - I haven't found a way of finding trades with multiple of the same item. (Let me know if there is one!)

2) to find the best currency exchange prices: go to Search Trades -> the Currency tab.

  • If you want to buy GC for SC, enter 1 in the GC In Trade box, and something like 90 in the SC Buyout box. Again, if you see a lot of pages of results, lower the SC number until you find the lowest one, and if you see no results, increase the SC number until you see some.
  • If you want to buy SC for GC, swap the boxes - enter 1 in the GC Buyout box, and something like 50 in the SC In Trade box. In this case, if you see no results, decrease the SC number, and if you see too many results, increase it! Since you want to find the most SC you can get for your 1 GC, and the search finds all trades with as much or more SC as entered in the box.

If you want to buy/sell in bulk, multiply all the numbers by e.g. 10 to find the best bulk deal. (But bulk deals may not be better than the single GC deals, so check those too!)

3) By the way, did you know you can search for trades by a specific user? Feel free to check out my trades! I try to sell a bunch of things for around the cheapest prices, but let me know if I got something wrong.

I'm assuming the same things goes for wolves?

More or less, yeah!  It's harder to find the "right" wolves because you generally won't have multiple identical wolves in the TC for comparison, but you can still enter all the features you want and then filter by price until you find the cheapest ones that meet the requirements.

I came over from Lioden, so the search feature is the same over there. I hadn't even considered some might not be aware of it. This is very helpful for those that may not be familiar with it.
