He didn't really wait for an answer, he just kept walking. They were taking the back hallway, so that no one would see them walking alone together, as that was uh- A BIG no-no. They passed several signs along the way, and eventually reached the east wing. Sarah's room was in between Elisia, one of the Ladies, and Gemma, a foreign princess. He'd made sure to put her there because Elisia and Gemma were by far the kindest of the bunch. They still weren't great, but they wouldn't insult her with every opportunity they got. He opened the door to her room, and watched as Sarah's expression went from curious to shocked in a matter of seconds. |

"Sarah, no one here has earned this, but I can assure you, you've worked harder than anyone else here. This is actually one of the smaller rooms- I figured you'd be uncomfortable in a large one, so I asked you to be placed in a smaller size." He could see that he wasn't really helping, so he answered her question instead. "There's really not much you'll be able to do that your maids won't do for you, but if you'd like, you could simply be kind to them? The maids here don't often see kindness, so it would be a welcome change for them. And, no offence, but you're much closer to their station than anyone else here, so it'll be easier for them to talk with you casually." He offered a small smile, but she still seemed nervous. "Fine, fine. You can help the royal gardeners. They do some farming, but it's menial. I can tell the officials that you're doing it out of the kindness of your heart, but don't be surprised if you get some strange looks. It's not entirely appropriate for one of the selected to be helping the staff." He admitted, though he could tell she was determined now. |

"Alrighty then. Well, I'll see to it that you're shown the garden on your tour. Now, you'll need to put in an order of how you want your room customized. You can paint the walls, get new furniture, pretty much everything is interchangeable, so feel free to do it however you please. And yes, it is required. Don't worry about the money either; The others will spend much more, so I assure you, whatever you think is expensive, it's not." He clasped his hands together and made his way to the door. "Now, I've got to go and check on everyone and get all the formalities out of the way, so I'll see you later! Oh- And uh- Could you not tell anyone I was here? I'm not really supposed to meet any of you until tomorrow's breakfast celebration!" He smiled awkwardly as he opened the door. She gave him a small nod, and he added one last thing before he left. "You'll get to choose your maids in around ten or so minutes! There'll be around twenty of them that come in here. You can get to know them, talk to them a bit, and then make your choice. They're all female, and you should choose the three you get along with best! Byeeeee~!" He called over his shoulder as he shut the door. |

One by one, seventeen maids filtered into the room. They hadn't been informed of why they were there, and some were speculating that they were being punished for something. Anne wasn't too worried, as she knew they'd done nothing wrong. Lucy was in tears. Mary walked beside her, trying to calm her down. Jessica messed with her skirt anxiously. Naori showed no emotion. They all lined up next to one another in front of a small woman with their heads bowed. Anna recognized her as being the sixth Lady, but she wasn't permitted to speak, so she didn't say anything. |

"W-We're not supposed to look at you, m-my lady." She froze, seeming to panic more. "My name's Anne, the two next to me are Mary and Lucy. The girl who just spoke was Jessica. The three behind me are Naori, Camryn, and Michi. The rest won't tell you their names." Anne spoke, looking directly into this woman's eyes. |
