Rework The Enclave, It's Inadequate as a pupsink.

Rework The Enclave, It's Inadequate as a pupsink.
Posted 2022-06-24 00:08:37 (edited)
Currently the enclave functions poorly as a pupsink which i assume was what its job was meant to be considering it is a place u can put your unwanted dogs for a small reward.
A pupsink needs to be effective in removing large amounts of puppies from the game, while at this moment there are 800 puppies there, it still isnt enough to make a dent in the market, for context there is still 75 pages of puppies(wolves under 6months) or aproximately 1875 puppies and we have not even accounted for adolescences(36 pages/900)  considering that wolvden has aproximately 1000-2000 active players depending on whether it is lunar event or isnt to clear out all of the puppies and adolescence on the trade center each player would have to buy an average  of 1.38-2.78 puppies off the tc to clear out the market which is obviously not happening considering most players have more pups than they know what to do with
in addition to that the enclave quest is not intuitive and most players find it confusing or annoying so most folks dont do it

So why is the enclave so inadequate and underused? I believe it is due to the following reasons

1. It does not reward well enough

Currently the bear gives you 1sc per 100 stats that a puppy has, considering puppies are easily bought out for prices under 10sc on the tc to be used as fodder, the only time leaving a pup at the enclave would be worth it instead of selling it for fodder is if u have a puppy with 1000 stats, but if u had such a high stat puppy i highly doubt youre going to be selling that at fodder prices

2.There is no toggle for whether your pup is going to be able to be adopted by other players or not

Some folks dont want their pups taken in by other players they want to trim their lineages as much as possible so having their enclaved pups have a potential to be taken by a stranger puts them off

3.The enclave is unintuitive to use

The amount of folks that dont understand how the enclave works is massive and its mostly not their fault. For some reason the quest for the enclave is put at the top implying its how you leave your pups at the enclave(because when u go to the enclave you expect its main feature to be placed at the top so the placement order is unintuitive) and then the leave puppy thing is sandwiched between the adoption area and the quest making it seem least important

So what are some solutions?
1. make the enclave more rewarding by having it reward its own enclave currency instead of SC so the enclaves rewards wont become underwhelming due to inflation and make an enclave shop with useful items that players would be encourages to use the enclave for, such as 1 use breeding items like the cock/tit/sages from slots or heck if the devs feel generous, the ability to buy golden cones for large amounts of enclave currency, ide say around 300 puppies enclaved worth of enclave currency per GC buyable considering about 2.5k puppies are generated a day, ide say it would be fair and not overpowered as it would equate to a max of 8gc given to the entire playerbase a day or enough gc in usd to buy 1 chocolate bar. Of course i expect such a thing to also have a bunch of decor for sale but it should not be the main attraction of the enclave shop as people arent going to constantly need decor nor is everyone 100% going to like and want the decor in the first place

2. add a toggle for whether your pups will be adoptable by other players. Not everyone wants their pups to be sent to a new home so dont make the enclave just for people that want their puppies taken by other players.(cute way to do it is a toggle that makes it so your puppies can only be adopted by bear families)

3.Remove the cap on how many puppies you can leave at the enclave per day. A limit on the one thing that is supposed to help get rid of the overflow of puppies doesn't make any sense, we should be encouraged to use the enclave more, not less

4.remove the 'must be bred by you' restriction. Let anyone throw a pup into the enclave regardless of its pack, it will help the wolvden trade market regulate itself because if ever someone prices a pup too low someone will be able to scoup it up and put it at the enclave. The whole point of a pupsink is to help remove puppies from the market, making it so you can throw a pup you bought from the market because you didnt breed it means that pup is basically forced to circulate around the game because few would waste sc paying for it just to throw

5.Put the leave puppy tab on top, adoption in the middle and then the quest at the bottom. Most folks will be here to leave pups or adopt pups, the quest is usually an after thought so making it like this makes it more convenient and intuitive

Additional idea to improve the enclave:
normally ide split these into different suggestions but i dont want to talk about the enclave shop several more times

1. Enclave bear is constantly overwhelmed with work with the amount of puppies being left with her, she is willing to pay you enclave currency for members of your pack who are experienced in general so they can educate the pups or skilled with puppy care to act as helpers for her

Have  the bear reward you based on the level and pupsitter prof. with low levels providing you less of a reward and high levels providing far better rewards because u decided to hold onto the wolf and train it for longer

example
for levels the currency given should jump fairly drastically cus each level is compoundingly harder to get to bare in mind the shortest time to get your wolf to lvl 20 excluding lead wolf is aproximately 30 rollovers
Lv1: 0 currency given
Lv2: 1 currency given
Lv3: 5 currency given
Lv4: 15 currency given
.....
Lv20: 800 currency given

as for profficency it takes 20 rollovers to get 100 but is generally far more low effort so just make it go up linearly, no extra currency needs to be given for getting it all the way to 100% because the pain in the ass that is finding a new dog to train up and then reassign pups to protect is adequate. Maybe around  2 currency per % capping at 200 currency given for 100% prof pupsitter

I'd also like if they made it so you could see the base of the pup and what not before you buy it. Not just the gender and stats. It needs to be more organized.

Support, but with the caveat that the enclave should not be a greater sc generator than it currently is, because creating more sc would destabilize the economy. For instance, I think the low payout for enclaving pups (1 sc per 100 stats) is a good feature and should not be changed.

I think the best solution (as Derpy mentioned) is having enclave currency as a reward for doing enclave quests. Right now, enclave quests are not worth it: you spend time searching the TC, you buy a pup for maybe 15 sc, you turn it in for 25 sc...it's not worth the time and effort. Replacing the sc payouts with enclave currency + good items in the enclave shop could revitalize the fodder market. For instance:
- Enclave-exclusive decor and/or recipes
- Enclave-exclusive marking applicators
- Event currency exchange (can buy event currency while an event is active)

In development update #9 (link) they mention that the SC rewards are temporary and will be changed to a unique currency and shop in the future. So I think the admins are already working on this. :)

@Eelai I think so! However, that development update was over a year ago. It would be nice if it happened soon. Excited to see what the admins have planned for it

@Eelai that is true, the currency part will eventually be a thing however the  focus is less on the enclave cirrency and more about making it so we are more inclined to use the enclave + be able to leave trained adult wolves for a reward

The Development update also makes it seem like only the 3 Daily quests will get the special Enclave Currency. It depends on how you read it, so it's possible leaving additional pups may still give you SC when it's finally updated.

There is also 1 additional bonus not mentioned here to leaving puppies in the enclave, the "Some Kind Of Puppy Spam" quest: Leave 500 puppies at the enclave. This only counts for the leaving puppies, not daily quest puppies. It's not super relevant since it's a very high quest number. It may or may not motivate people to leave puppies, but eventually, it will be finished even if it does encourage a member, and then there's no more motivation to keep going.

As well as the Do the quests 100 rollovers in a row Achievement. Which tries to motivate players to do their 3 daily pups pushed into the enclave. I'm not sure how effective this is.

It feels like - personally - a LOT of pups are being removed from the market at the moment. The last wolvden raffle had 1619 entries. I don't think there's an accurate way to calculate per day players, but currently, there are 900 pups in the enclave (at time of posting). Of course, it's pretty late in the day already. When I manage to roll over right at rollover time, there are usually more to 65-80 pages of enclave pups (compared to 50 now). Let's lowball and say 65 per day.

65 X 18 = 1170 Pups Per Day (Minimum)
1170 X 7 = 8190 Pups Per Week (Minimum)

8190 / 4 (Average Litter Size Estimate) = 2047 Litters worth of Pups Left Per Week

People are still welcome to do what they want with the rest of their pups. Some may not want the low enclave prices, and may prefer to sell them for Enclave Fodder prices. Currently, we cannot increase the SC price of the bear without messing with the SC prices in the game. So I think it's only fair people can decide to sell their pups for 10-15 sc in the TC instead.

We can definitely make the enclave more enticing, but it's a careful balance. The enclave has set out what it set to do. Before it was released, pup prices were as low as 2-3 sc each. It's brought the prices up a bit while removing a large chunk of pups from the market. I can't say how much without knowing the data of pups per day, but a fair amount.

Just some food for thought. Now for my actual supports/not supports.

1. New Currency
Do 100% support. Have also been waiting for this update. Not sure how I feel about it extending to Leave a Puppy, unless it was limited to like 1 currency per puppy, as it could be very heavily milked by richer players/players with bigger dens. While some might think it would cause people to put more puppies in, most people would just breed more puppies to get the currency. But still, support for the enclave quests finally switched over.

2. Toggle
If you didn't want your pups sent to a new home, couldn't you just chase them? Sure you wouldn't get the few SC that the bear offers you, but it currently seems like the most safe method of doing things. Honestly, I think the reverse is more true, people probably are fearful of their puppies being voided and would rather they find good families.

3. Remove the Cap
No support. I really don't feel like the limit needs to be removed. Even if you're grinding towards the Puppy Spam achievement quest, you'll very seldom hit the limit. I honestly don't know many members that do. I have hit the limit once since the enclave came out. And members breeding that many pups tend to chase a ton of pups because pupsitting gets messy anyway.

4. Remove the Restriction
No support. I don't know why but this feels icky. I know players can have their pups put into the enclave with the Enclave Quests, but to dump a bunch of people's pups into the enclave without their support just feels kinda mean. Like what if they don't want their pups in the enclave(as mentioned in your point #2). I know you can do whatever you want with wolves you buy. You can chase all of someone's bought wolves if you want. But I just don't like this.

5. Move the Leave a Puppy
I have no problem with this. It is very inconvenient where it is, especially when I'm leaving like 25 puppies.

I agree with all of these aside from the last one. Personally I'm always at the enclave ONLY to do quests and I feel like it will be the same once a currency is added that is exclusive from the quests. Instead I propose the alternative of the 'leave a pup' being a dropdown/checkbox style where you can leave multiple puppies at once. This way those who are going there to dump pups (which tbh is the one thing I do the least) can do so all at once vs. dumping one and scrolling.

I'm also on the fence about the adult wolf option. It seems like a good idea but I don't personally think the currency you are suggesting is way too much. If Lioden is anything to go by it would take months of work to get 800 monkey teeth while you're suggesting here, where currency is worth more and harder to get, that you can get that with just one wolf? Doesn't seem right.

@Lily That's actually a really smart idea!!! Even if we can only leave 10 pups at a time, then 10 more (I say because nesting and some features limit to 10), that's a FAR improvement from selecting one at a time.

Support. There needs to be a better reward for using the enclave period, and I enjoy the idea of having a sort of proficiency situation where the more you give, the more rewards you get for contributing !

The enclave doesnt give enough reward for people to use it as a pup sink consistently imo
