more precise user log for hunts

Hi!

At some point I got interested in data gathering for which stats you need for which trail size depending on the biome. Being able to rely more on the user log for that would be a great help.
So it would be nice, for information gathering purposes, if the user log entries for finished hunts were more precise and mentioned the biome, the trail size, and each wolf's level.
Like, now it goes
"Finished a hunt! Your hunting party, Nice Roomies, returned from their hunt. 🐘Pelt Bearer - NBW G1 captured the prey!
🐫Slush gained 476 EXP and +1 chasing proficiency point (new total: 100). +1 agility (new total: 349)
...";
it could be instead (changes in bold)
"Finished a small hunt in the taiga! Your hunting party, Nice Roomies, returned from their hunt. 🐘Pelt Bearer - NBW G1 captured the prey!
🐫Slush (level 20) gained 476 EXP and +1 chasing proficiency point (new total: 100). +1 agility (new total: 349)
"

Thanks, have a nice day/night/whatever!

Yes yes yes yes, please incorporate this. 100% please devs, I will love you forever and buy GC to support you. I'm currently data collecting hunting exp gains in 3 different biomes with 4 hunting parties. Each biome has a specific party (that I have labeled *hunting party name* (*biome*)) but having to keep track of each wolf's level and trail sizes to accurately record data is a logistical pain at the moment. Quite literally, I have multiple sheets of paper and additions to spreadsheets to keep track of it all. I want to create a user-created guide in the future with the data I've collected to help users choose which biome they want to hunt in to balance food and exp gain, but it's taking a lot of time to just record the data even though I have a process going now.

This would be wildly helpful and probably requires little coding. 100% support from me.

Sending a hunt leaves a log about the place and trail size. It wasn't much of an issue prior the hunting update when we could send one hunt and comparing timestamps of properly filtered logs we could determine necessary information about the EXP gain. Now, we can send multiple hunts at once to biomes outside the home and every time we send a hunt, the logs don't tell us which party is sent so we can't determine the relevant data from the logs alone. It'd be enough to me if logs included the name of the hunting party that was sent.

Currently we can compare timestamps of level-ups with finished hunt logs so determining the level is not a problem. Also, when I try to filter out hunter stat gains during tasks, I usually have to include a long phrase into the filter that would be disturbed if level information was included into the line.

We can find out the level, but it's a bit more work than if it were written in the end-of-hunt log and since it looks like it's not a lot of work adding it and I was already asking for changes in the log, I saw no downside to asking for it too.
May I ask what phrase you enter to check for hunter stat gains?

I put into the filter a phrase in the following pattern:

"a href wolf [wolfID] class alert link * [optionally more asterisks if wolf's name has more than 1 word] a gained * EXP and 1 * proficiency point new total * * * new"

This way, I get all stat gains for certain wolf during hunting. With a similar pattern I can determine the amount of hunts the wolf participated in specific role, etc. If level information was put in this phrase, I would have to start filtering different phrases and sum up registers from before and after the proposed change.

I don't know exactly what kind of stats you collect so I may not be aware of how often you need to do a certain search. So I'll just assume based on what I know and do but I may assume wrong:

It would indeed make the new formula twice as long to account for both before and after the change, but is that an issue? It's not like you have to type it from scratch every time, and would you need to do it more than once per wolf? (as in, after the first time you could switch to only the new formula)
As long as we don't change it every week, imo it's fine if it makes it easier for the players who would get into stats recording from now on (I see it as a trade-off where it's slightly more annoying for you personally but a medium amount easier for all of the future players who do hunt stats gathering).

An alternative wording would be "Level 20 Wolf Slush gained 476 XP..."; would that be better?
(I have a slight dislike for this solution as I feel like having the name of the wolf at the beginning of the line makes it easier to read somehow, but the name is blue and bold so maybe it doesn't matter)

Also, it's important to have resources about how to make complex searches (thanks a lot for that, by the way!), but it's important too that we try to make it so people can get by with simple ones.

What I think is that there's no need to include extra detailed information into the logs if this can be found somewhere else. For the same reason others may feel the need to include level data in other logs which register EXP gain, such as scouting, foraging, pup training, battles won or quest completion.

Oh my bad I misunderstood: I thought what you didn't like was the retro-compatibility issue, not the redundant information.

XD I guess we just don't agree then; I think it might indeed be convenient to have the wolves' level recorded in any and all logs that track XP gain (as long as level influences XP gain).

I totally agree with this suggestion.

I do a lot of analysing my hunters, and being able to check which trail they were hunting in which biome would be so crucial. Especially now that we can hunt in multiple biomes at once.
