Stalking through the trees, Shade caught many scents. She was an alright hunter, and could do well enough on her own. Been a while since I've hunted. Haven't done this away without a full team since R- It cut itself off, shaking its head to clear it. Since I hunted with... him. She stopped, shaking her head more. It was late afternoon now, and she couldn't get distracted if she was to be home before nightfall. Shaking its head once more, it turned and ran. Sprinting at full speed, it quickly reached one of the humans' stone paths. Few came through here, mostly just the werewolves and the few humans with their horses. Occasionally there was one of the bright screaming things, but they were rare. Shade caught the scent of elk, a male. Harder to take down, but worth it for all they provided. It was grazing, alone. Shade stalked closer, claws prickling. Too focused on the elk to look down at them, she inched closer. He would be hard to kill, and hard to drag back. I'll howl for someone to help me move it. Kaizen will come and help. He's... loyal. She was still near the path, and she could smell one of the screaming beasts in the distance. An idea formed quickly. Shade stalked around to the side of the elk bull, careful that he wouldn't catch her scent. Once she was certain that he was between her and the path, she waited. She heard the bright beast approach, and all at once she sprang out from the brush, barking and growling and snapping at the huge bull. Normally, he would fight, but the wolf had spooked him, and he took off in the opposite direction. Shade heard the two loud beasts, the humans' one giving out a scream, then there was a loud thud. Trotting to the scene, she saw the two humans pointing to the now deceased bull. One was only a pup, the other was careful to keep itself between the elk and the smaller one. Shade approached from behind, growling at the human pup. It let out a shriek, and the larger one turned and grabbed it up, running back to their pet beast, which quickly began growling and carried them away. Circling around the fallen prey, Shade let out a howl of victory, calling her packmates to help her drag it home. |

The wolf lay there for a few seconds before rolling over, flipping Cosette around and pinning her down carefully. "I live! Take this, you foul beast!" He cried, batting the pup with his paws softly. Shade's howl registered and he hesitated slightly but the rest of the hunters seemed to be ready to go help and he turned his attention back to the pup instead. |

"Take that you-" She was cut off as he flipped and pinned her with his paw, and she bared her tiny but razor sharp teeth at him. She wiggled under his paw, "Augh! No! You'll never take me alive!!" She snapped her jaws at him, trying to be vicious but giggling every now and then. |

There, it sat next to them both silently, waiting for them to stop. Pups need play, after all. |

"I suppose I must retreat, oh mighty Cosette, my leader must rally the troops! But we will meet again and I will be not so easily defeated!" He proclaimed, giving the pup a small nudge to direct her away, tail slowing to small swishes. Ears pricked forward inquisitively, the hunter turned to the Alpha, ready to listen to what it had to say. |

Walking outside of the camp, it decided to just circle around it. They needed quiet, but it hardly cared if any of the pack overheard through the bushes. "Sola. You've been hunting well, though you were late today. Do you know why I needed to talk to you?" She stopped, sitting down and facing him. |

"You were late. And you also brought more than enough prey to feed the pack for tonight. No one will be hungry, and things pan out. No, I wanted to speak to you about something else." It sighed before continuing, "two things really. First, Cosette. She sneaks out of camp far too often; I have big plans for her and don't need her being hurt. Second, you're our best hunter- besides Kaizen, of course- and I have a few plans for you as well." It smiled, fangs poking through just a smidge more, her face just unnatural enough to be unsettling. "Second. Kaizen hunts too much. He is my beta; his duties should be spread through the entire pack. As such, I've decided to consider making you a lead hunter, to give him more time to direct the scouts and pupsitters and assist me in managing the pack. If- and it's a big if, Sola- I decide to promote you, do you accept?" She tilted her head, waiting for an answer, "if not, then I'll have to start looking for another. It's up to you." |
