more wyverns!!crystal wyverns they shriek built for power, mainly defense they basically breathe a layer of crystals that solidify, it's very easy to see where one has been. very family focused, vv protective. both wyvern and rider often get attached to 1-5 people and will be rather iffy about anyone else. egg+adol cave. the pool closest, can't really see it, is for the eggs and is set higher up to discourage younger wyverns from disrupting the eggs. instead of a saddle being on their back, its closer to their head, where spikes are shorter. bc they're thick and strong they can support that weight - in the image you can see where the spikes are small before shooting up and thats where the saddle sits! they're, surprisingly, not terribly rare. a mix of light and rock/earth leads to these dragons and its rather rare that a pairing of two different ones produces a full light dragon or full rock dragon. rock dragons were once all over the academy and they'd sometimes choose a dragon with a rider to pair with, leading to the crystal wyverns. crystal wyverns pair with only other crystal wyverns and thats how they've become fairly common. rock wyverns they grumble and growl built for strength, often just gluing themselves to a wall before gliding away. most wyverns can do so but they've evolved specifically for that! and they blend in :D they breathe magma, can't reach as far but given its like. lava. you cannot escape it lmao. it can knock animals to the ground, burn through stuff, all those fun things more solitary wyverns! will mate for life then thats about all the interaction they have - not usually seen, similar to earth wyverns. egg+adol cave. they have both younger ones and eggs in the same place - there's usually a few pairs who stick around to take care of the younger ones and they switch out every so often with other adults. nests are in alcoves right up the top and once hatched they're brought down to the bottom and given over to whoever is caring for them. they hardly see their parents, don't really remember them even if their parents are the pair that takes care of them! fun fact: along with earth dragons, these are one of the least tamed sub species! they populate in the caverns and will help when certain places are under threat but only 1 in 10 are fully integrated into the force. sometimes they will teach younger riders how to act around wyverns, mainly the elders, but otherwise they just keep the cavern nice and safe if none of the riders are around. cept they were all killed by the king sending out spies (haven't worked out how lmao) |

I can also very much imagine the sand wyvern burying themselves under the sand, just waiting to jump out in a surprise attack XD Maybe wild dragon nests could be buried beneath the sand, away from direct and harsh sun, and hidden from potential scavengers. Making them incredibly hard to find. |

and yess, exactly! there's caves, usually near an oasis, that are dug into the ground and almost made of glass when the sand is blasted with their fire to made it solid. it's less like that in the caverns, the eggs are generally in water no matter where but now the nests are dug into walls or they're just like curled up next to the ponds lmao |
