Caisin, too trusting as always, simply took them at their words. We'd get our dragons when we're ready. He sighed, slightly glum at the ambiguous answers that adults seemed to enjoy giving. He watched the silver and blue dragon land down next to headmaster Byxem, the ground thundering as it landed, before suddenly taking off again, tearing through the sky like a snapping, dangerous, arrow into an unknown direction. He felt rather forlorn now, watching the glittering creature take off, thinking about what it would be like having a bond with one. Will i ever be good enough to ride one of those? Im just a farm kid. Why did they choose me anyways? He thought, suddenly curious about this whole situation. However, he didnt have much time to ponder before Headmaster Ilia started speaking up again. As she started talking, his attention was snagged by the girl who had spoken up with the question. She was the one with a bird right? He couldn't tell what kind it was, but it was enough to pique his curiosity. Caisin almost wanted to ask but so far, she seemed to have an almost irritated or angry look to her face all the time. He suddenly worried that she might not be the most friendly and thought against it. He swept his gaze across the clearing again, taking a closer look at all the students again. He recognized the girl he waved to, but she was still sitting off in the corner. She might not want to talk to people right now, let alone a kid. He shrugged, but it got him wondering if there was anybody else near his age. He spotted the red haired person who came in from the wooded area. They seemed more his age, and didnt seem so bad at first glance. It looked like they had a carved piece of wood in their hands. He was a bit too far away to make out what it was a carving of but it kind of looked like a lizard. Maybe a dragon? He thought hopefully. Maybe they like dragons too…I could try to talk to them. How do you start conversations with strangers anyways?? Caisin gave another huff, a little daunted at talking with new people and overwhelmed by everything he'd seen today, and it was still first thing in the morning. His interest was captured again at headmaster Ilia's mention at a tour. Oh a tour! That'll be cool! Suddenly eager, he stood up, brushed himself off from any dust he had on his clothes, and combed his disarrayed hair as best he could with his fingers. Apparently the dorms were random, that certainly made it easier. With that question answered, he figured he'd join them on the tour of the grounds and check out his room and potential new clothes afterward. Whatever they had clothing wise, it was certainly better than his torn hand-me-downs. Standing up now, he waited for her to start the said tour, wringing his hands together in slight nervous energy. |

There was a great whoosh as the dark gray wyvern swung back towards the ground, called back by her bonded, the Headmaster Byxem Arros. She landed with an impressive thud. Neha, Kyle recalled, was this dragon's name. He thought she was absolutely amazing- well, to be fair he thought all the dragons were amazing. The way Neha's striking blue eyes seemed to bore into your soul gave him chills, intelligence lurking in their depths like a vast ocean. He watched as the Headmaster whispered into her ear before the wyvern lifted off again, her sleek form cutting through the air like butter. Having lost her playmate, the other wyvern settled back to earth as well. Ilia went on to speak more to the students, something about a tour? Kyle wondered if he could tag along. Not for the tour itself, he'd already been given a small one when he'd first arrived. But he'd only been here for two weeks and mundane work was becoming such a bore already. Due to his current inexperience, jobs related to the dragons themselves were far and few between at the moment, so he was usually tasked with mucking out horse stables and other ordinary things. Getting to know these new faces- others his age- seemed rife with intrigue. If he remembered correctly, each one of them had been individually selected to bond with a baby wyvern when they hatched, and he itched to know more. The clack of spines derailed his train of thought, and his head snapped up. Ah yes, the other wyvern. His eyes fixed upon the beast, her beautiful scales glinting like a patch of void against the green grass, powerful muscle rippling beneath them. Kyrena, the name flashed through Kyle's mind. He'd hardly been around dragons for long enough to be able to truly decipher their expressions, but he couldn't help but feel Kyrena's movements carried a fresh distaste to them right now. Maybe she was irritated that Neha had been pulled away from their game? Then again, this dragon in particular always seemed rather restless, head tossing to and fro and smoke apt to billow from her flared nostrils. Kyle always felt a little on edge near her, but the trust between Kyrena and her bonded seemed firm, and Headmaster Ilia didn't seem the sort who would let anyone come to harm on her watch. Still.. Kyle wondered if he should start making a list of the wyvern's favorite treats. Just in case. |

Likely slept in? Bullshit. A lie, a sadly obvious one. Lying by omission, are we, Illia? What was she leaving out...? A tour? Nyx shifted her weight to her other hip at the thought. Boring. But at least she didn't have to change, but checking in on her stuff and unpacking a little would be nice whilst others did so. Sage's shadow fell over her. By the lump at her talons, it was clear the stubborn little bird had finally got breakfast - good. Maybe she would be less like a bitch if she wasn't hungry. The smell of smoke made her snap her attention to the direction it was coming from. Just the wyvern. Just Kyrena. Smoke...so fire? Made sense - matched the scales that shifted together to look like magma. So would the wyverns' appearances match their element? What elements were there, anyways? What will I get? Sage landed on the tree behind her handler, scarfing down her breakfast -- it looked like what had been a mouse -- in mere seconds. She hopped down onto the ground, walked to Nyx, then let out a sudden screech. It wasn't as loud as Nyx had thought it was, but it made her jump. Never mind. Sage was a bitch always. No matter what happened. Fine. She glared down at the falcon. If looks could kill. . . Why in all the gods has she picked Sage as her partner? The loudest, sassiest bird that Corvus (she laughed softly under her breath; his name was actually Ryder) had in his sanctuary. Sage spread her wings and, with a very smug look at her glare, circled back into the air back to where the dorms were. |

He dipped his head slightly, " I do have some plans, so I'll take my leave. Take care, Byx, Ilia." He answered the headmaster, turning around and making his way back down towards the pastures. He needed to not only spend time with his horse, but he needed to do his tasks for the day. ♤ Evangeline Avalonia ♤ She would be honest, when the headmaster mentioned a tour she immediately perked up. She regained all of the energy that had drained out of her by just being around people for this long. But this? This made it all worth it. To see all the facilities, learn about what happens there and what they're used for. She practically shivered with excitement, her posture straightening as the tour started. When the group reached the entrance to the cavern, Evangeline's skin started prickling, as if something were... calling out to her maybe? She ignored it though, figuring the information was more important. When Ilia gave that last bit of information, the only thing she though was if it would work on her parents to make them forget she existed. Her life would be much more carefree without that weight of worrying about their reactions, they had been the cause of so much pain and she didnt want to see them ever again. The girl brought herself back to the present, echoing "understood" back to the woman at the front of the group. She hadn't expected this to be thrilling. If she were going to be honest? She thought it would be fake. Just another false hope in this dark dark world, and she had been pleasantly surprised. Finally, the truth. She though, lips quirking into a small smile. Perhaps this wouldnt be so bad after all. |

Excitement buzzed through Kyle as he trailed after Ilia, walking alongside the students. Once lessons get started, same applies - for most lessons, she had said. He'd kind of known that already, after all taking care of dragons would be tough without.. well, knowing how to take care of dragons. But still, the solid reminder was thrilling to hear. As the tour went on, Kyle let his eyes wander over the others. He didn't know their names yet, but maybe afterwards he could try and make some conversation, learn more about.. why them? At first glance they seemed a bit of a.. ragtag group, he couldn't spot anything in particular that they really had in common. Maybe it was something deeper.. something not wholly tangible. Something beyond- well, beyond Kyle at least. He grimaced to himself, running a hand through his haphazard mop of hair and idly picking out another thread of straw. He had a feeling this "dragon stuff" was going to be a bit more complicated than he had hoped. The group came to a halt and Kyle stared up at the grand entrance. The Cavern. He'd been inside just once, briefly, on his own welcoming tour. He hadn't been led terribly far in, just enough to get an idea, but its impressive interior was hard to forget. He remembered standing near the ledge, gazing off towards the more distant caves and wondering which may hold a certain.. precious cargo. The dragon eggs. He had hesitated a moment. He hadn't really known why. But.. maybe, maybe he'd been.. waiting. Hoping? For.. for.. He let the thought trail off unfinished. It's fine. A few times since he'd arrived, he'd found himself standing before it again, a pail of water or a box of whatever laying forgotten by his feet as he gazed into the darkness. He had tried to tell himself he was just curious, wanting to know more about what else might lay within. And yet.. .. ..yet the opening before him just loomed silently as ever, the shadows beyond still dark and unwelcoming. He didn't stare at it long, gaze falling to the ground. He shoved down the uncomfortable feeling in his chest and nudged a tuft of grass with his shoe. It's fine, everything's fine. |

Information buzzed around her head before getting stored away. She hadn't ridden a horse well, ever. But that is true; they would be less noticeable than wyverns. Something grappled in her heart and tugged. She almost stumbled from the feeling. Nyx felt winded; she put her hand on her chest, but as quickly as it came, it was gone. She frowned up at the gate, bangs falling back. It's up to you, little moon bud, what do you want to do? her mother had said to her when Nyx had been questioning to go to a mystery woman and her academy. Later that day, she'd told Corvus that she was going, he just murmured that she should follow her heart. She'd rolled her eyes at the comment, but yet here she was... Nyx shook her head. This was not a time to turn back. She straightened up, titling her chin up. No. She was here, where she was meant to be. She felt it in her bones. |

They looked into the entrance of the cavern. It looked... Caverny, to say the least. They felt a bit nauseous suddenly. Caverns... Tight spaces... In the dark.. they could already sense the claustrophobia setting in. Happy thoughts.. Think happy thoughts... they willed. Didn't the headmaster say something about horses? Horses were nice, they reminded them of sheparding back home. It was a boring but nessacary job, one they were always stuck with. The plus side to herding though, was spending all day on horseback, galloping where ever as long as they could spot the goats. Feeling the wind in their hair and the freedom and connection of the ride. They wondered if dragon riding was anything like it, even though horses and dragons seemed quite un alike. They glanced about, eventually locking eyes with the firey wyvern from earlier. It (she?) seemed to be watching the students with an unwavering stare, that reminded Aybis of a wolf or wildcat. The feeling of being watched sent a chill down their spine, even if the dragon seemed benevolent. Remembering the cavern crisis on hand, they returned their attention to the headmaster, with a dreading last glance at the entrance. |

He could feel the apprehension rising in the air with a crackling energy. The hair on the back of his neck started rising the closer they got to this mysterious cavern, the home of dragons. Headmaster Ilia's words didnt help put him at ease either. This was the point of no return for him. It wasn't too late to return to the farm… help out with the harvest in fall, spend his winter learning to hunt, maybe even becoming a skilled hunter or trapper for their town… He could leave this fantasy behind and go back to his parents. He knew this path only meant danger, perhaps even the end for him, his friends, and family. If he went through with this, it would be treason. That was the logical thing to do, leave right now, but he also knew deep down, he really didn't have any intentions of going back, not being so close to his goal. He braced himself as he came into view of the cavern, sometimes having to crane his neck to catch a proper glimpse of it from behind the other, taller students. As he moved to the side of the path to catch an unobstructed view, he was momentarily stunned by what he saw. Leaning his head back, he stared at the massive cascading waterfall, the cliff where it started shockingly high up. He could hear the rumbling, almost feel it, from the shear amount of water dropping dizzyingly far down below into the dark hole under them. He could see rings of rocks up ahead, almost like they were there to anchor the waterfall to the rock it was trying to jump from. He guessed there might be paths along those rings, leading to other caves and caverns. They were certainly big enough to fit several dragons along them. he could see the deep gashes crisscrossed along the ring above, hints at dragons long past and gone. The topmost ring was too high up for him to inspect so instead he tried to peer over the edge and see into the dark abyss below. The sudden drop off into empty air was enough for him to get vertigo, and, feeling a little frightened at the height, found himself jerking back. Stop acting like a scaredy cat! You might get to ride dragons soon. How will you manage that if your scared of a little cliff! He huffed to himself, shaking his head again. He crept to the ledge to glance down again, this time on his knees, a little less than excited to admit that he might have a problem with heights. Imagine that, a future dragon rider scared of heights. The idea almost seemed comical if the sheer drop down didn't churn his stomach so much. He could see that the third ring sloped downward, leading to the bottom of the pit. It looked like there was a small lake down at the bottom, a connecting river disappearing swiftly into the darkness. There were several islands dotted around the banks. He also noticed several nooks and small caves pocketing the faces of the walls, It was hard to make out any details about what anything held, being so far up, so he eagerly jumped up to follow the tour group down into the dark. As they walked along the pathway, he tried to ignore the fact that they were pretty much suspended in thin air with nothing but frigid lake water far down below to break their fall. Needless to say he was more than happy to hurry along to the bottom. Once on the floor of the vast cave, excitement seemed to overwhelm him again, fighting the urge to immediately run off and explore all the countless tunnels and nooks. He took note of Headmaster Ilia's mention of where the library was, wanting to browse the books there, knowing he'd most likely be taking a stack of the map books back with him. But for now he headed off toward the islands, wanting to see what was hidden under all the green growth attempting to overtake everything, passively wondering if this small lake held fish of any kind. |
