Evangeline quickly wiped the tears off of her cheeks, shying away from the gentle light of Kyrena's wisp of fire. She curled in on herself, trying to protect herself from something that would never come. After a few moments, she looked up at the woman. She felt like a little kid again, curled up in a cabinet with her brother as her parents fought with her aunt. They'd be in there for hours, tossing a ball of wool back and forth between each other. They'd keep the door open ever-so-slightly so they wouldn't get locked in it, who knew how long it would take for their parents to remember they existed. She laughed coldly, "Of course I know that. I grew up there." She said, her voice wavering but the anger still under-toning her voice. She pushed herself further against the corner as Ilia crouched down, panic rising in her gut. She tried to regulate her breathing, digging her nails into her legs to bring herself back into the moment. It's okay.. you're not there anymore. She told herself, taking a deep breath which helped but she still didn't relax her muscles. She really didn't want to let Ilia ask her questions, she wanted to scream at the headmaster. She wanted to let her know just how she felt about her right now. But she just nodded slightly, "fine, I'll let you answer my questions." Evangeline answered, her anger curbed for now. □● Calliope Cresthill ○■ Callie laughed as Ida squeezed past, urging the stallion beneath her to move forward faster, the two soon catching up to their companions. She slid off as well when they arrived, leading Dragonfly behind her to wait for the hidden door to open. She rubbed the horse's head, kissing his forehead with a small smile. Moving through the valley with Dragonfly following obediently after Aesira, Calliope was going to call over in greeting to Ilia before noticing she was talking to a student and deciding not to. She instead just followed after Ida like a lost puppy. "Right, sounds good. I'm starving." She said, her stomach sounding off in agreement right afterwards. She chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck. |

"They were never my family. Real family doesn't hurt you on purpose." She said, holding herself back from spilling anymore details. She listened to Ilia speak, her fingers moving uncomfortably. She needed a violin in her hands, letting the sweet melody of the strings take her away from this world. Like it always had before. She still remembered her reason for learning it. She wanted to have a reason to leave the house for hours on end, but that soon developed into a love for the instrument. Unfortunately, she had never had one of her own. And Evangeline was too scared to ask her parents for one. She thought for a moment, "I suppose that works for me." She replied, her voice much less shaky now. "Why did you use ravens, when you knew how easily they can be intercepted?" She asked, clasping her hands together to keep them from fidgeting. "You could have used a magic spell to conjure some sort of invisible messenger. Why didn't you?" She didn't seem angry yet, just extremely confused. "You were supposed to protect that student, and they died because your raven was intercepted." She wasn't accusing her, just simply stating a fact. □● Calliope Cresthill ○■ Calliope did the same for Dragonfly, speaking a few words of farewell to the stallion and letting Ida lead her away from the stables once more. She frowned as they entered the dining hall, the air seeming suffocating. She growled slightly, her body going rigid. "I think you have your answer on whether that student survived or not." She spoke roughly, voice low as the two spies approached the table on the far side of the room. Her eyes lit up at the side of the motherly woman by Byx's side, "Nikita!" She called, practically tripping over herself to greet the woman. "How have you been?" She asked enthusiastically, giving Byx a respectful nod of the head. Even if Callie was of higher status, she refused to make them feel lesser. |

Being glad he wasn't the only one with adverse reaction to the news helped ease his worry somewhat. But Caisin could confidently agree, this situation did indeed fucking suck. They both stayed there in silent contemplation for a while, Caisin rubbing his hands back and forth to keep himself busy while he thought. He was surprised at Kyles own admittance to also having ran away from home, but the reasons seemed to be much different than his own. Caisins interest was piqued, but he had to fight the urge to ask questions, as he could tell the subject was still rather sore for Kyle. The heart-to-heart however, did help him feel a little more at ease being here, a talk with at least one other person helping to lift the veil of mystery about this academy, and to peel back the shroud covering all the faceless strangers here. As Kyle continued, Caisin pulled his feet up onto the sofa, his knees against his chest as he listened in rapt silence. There was definitely an otherworldly aura about the dragons that always took his breath away even just thinking about them. The headmasters didnt pick them though, the dragons did. Could dragons make mistakes about things like that? Beings pulsing with magic and wisdom? His thoughts returned to the constant pull he felt, even now, drawing him down to the caverns. Whoever it was, calling him, they had chosen him, and just him. But why? Pushing that question aside to answer later, he briefly looked at Kyle, before allowing himself a small smile. "They are definitely amazing! Ive only been here a day, yet I'm still struggling with the idea that they're still alive, and that in some way, they chose me to help them come back." Thoughts once again turning back to the caverns, about the innocent lives tucked away inside, not even ready to begin life yet, and the idea that someone was out there ready to kill them; Caisins heart immediately started beating faster, feeling his face flush with anger out of protectiveness and fear for these small lives. "I don't even know what my dragon is, if I even end up ready for one, but already, I can't bring myself to think about it if any of them came to harm, or worse, being sentenced to die, just for having been born." He pondered on his own statement for a bit, before giving a sigh, trying to clear his thoughts again. Putting his legs down, and pulling himself off the couch, standing upright now, he brushed himself off while looking down to the floor. "I don't know honestly… I have a lot of stuff to think about. I should uh- should probably go to bed for now, clear my mind and think all this over carefully. Hopefully by tomorrow, ill have a better grasp on all my thoughts and about what to do." He stated quietly, stuffing his hands in his pockets. Looking up at Kyle again, he said. "Hey, uh, thanks for coming in to check up on me. The small talk definitely helped. I uh- I should also probably apologize to the headmasters for running out like that huh?" He chuckled. "Ill pay them a visit tomorrow after I've thought everything over." He said, more to himself this time as he headed toward the door. Pausing in the doorway, he looked back again. "Hey, does… does it ever bother you being surrounded by dragon riders, knowing you may never be able to share a bond with one?" He asked earnestly, thinking back to the way he talked so passionately about them, with what seemed like nothing but admiration. |

Once again that day, Kyle found himself wondering on what brought the students here in the first place. He knew the basics of course- something about.. hmm.. special bonds and baby wyverns and letters yada yada.. ..maybe he should work on his listening skills more. Anyway, his curiosity on the matter piqued as Caisin went on. His mind lingered, and he couldn't help but wonder what it must feel like, being.. chosen. But- it didn't matter, it couldn't. Kyle made his way here regardless and that was a small miracle in itself. Shoving away his thoughts, he nodded to Caisin's words. To imagine the dragons getting hurt.. it was an awful thought. He tried to picture what the baby wyverns might be like once they hatched, and already his heart seized with a fearsome sort of protectiveness over such small, new lives. A new realization popped into his head, and he recalled the words of Headmaster Ilia just before Nyx had walked out. If a student decided to leave, their wyvern.. he frowned. Was that- was that right? He wanted to dwell on this disturbing thought more, but was pulled back to the present by the rustle of movement. Maybe he'd ask one of the headmasters about it tomorrow. Kyle leaned back as the other boy pulled himself to his feet, propping himself with his arms. Ah, bed. "Sounds good," He murmured. He should probably head to bed soon himself, get his nights rest for whatever may lay ahead tomorrow and the days following. Now that everyone was here, it was surely only a matter of time until the new wyverns eventually hatched, and then it would be busy, he was certain. Busy, but exciting. Kyle shrugged nonchalantly at Caisin's thanks, a crooked smile crossing his face. He was just relieved he'd done at least somewhat alright- talks like this were usually his elder brother's specialty. Don't think about him. He glanced down, smoothing a hand over the texture of the couch as Caisin made towards the doorway. He glanced up again as the boy paused, turning back towards him and opening his mouth. Kyle froze at the question that came next, stomach sinking. In the beat of silence, a bitter sensation swamped his chest and crept up his throat, jealousy finally breaking through his careful dampening and rearing its ugly head. He swallowed thickly, forcing the smile back to his face and hoping it didn't look like the grimace it felt like. Kyle had never been great at lying. Still, he let out a wispy chuckle, grappling the unpleasant feeling and wrestling it back down into its small box to deal with.. later. Or never. "Nahh," He drawled, rising to his feet as well and tucking his thumbs into his pockets, "It's.. fine." Kyle grappled for something else to say, but could only manage a casual shrug and a change of subject. "Night, Caisin," He nodded, smile shifting to something a bit more genuine, "It was cool talking to you." |

She frowned as she listened, trying to keep herself focused even as she became more and more tired. "How come he is more powerful magic wise than most other people in this land, and yet he's trying to kill off the race of dragons. Isn't it a bit counterproductive?" She asked, seeming extremely confused. It just didn't make sense. Why would a man who wants to kill off a race that produces as well as thrives off magic, learn the very practice? I mean, she already knew he was a hypocrite. But this was above hypocrisy, it was stupidity. She nodded to the Headmaster. "For now, I am satiated. But I will probably seek you out tomorrow at some point." She said, rising to her feet and dipping her head. "Thank you for talking with me. Goodnight." She made her way back to the dorms, her limbs becoming heavy with exhaustion. When Evangeline finally arrived at the building, she was about to fall asleep where she was standing. She entered, dragging herself to her room with a mumble of a goodnight to anyone in the main quarters. She pulled her tight clothing off and slid into a cotton nightgown, sliding under her sheets and letting out a large sigh. This let all the tension in her muscles seep out as she drifted to sleep. □● Calliope Cresthill ○■ She nodded, "A very exciting day. Both in a bad way and a good one if I am correct." She said, her body tensing up and the friendly air gone. "They're dead aren't they? The student?" She asked, hands clasping behind her back to hide the way they were fidgeting. "That's mostly why we're here unfortunately, because Ida thought we could get here in time. But I can see we're too late by the... cloud hanging over everyone's heads." Calliope's voice sounded ice cold, but really she was just hiding the anger and grief. She would let it out later, when she was alone. She was glad that Ida was able to keep her carefree demeanor so far, but Callie just couldn't wait anymore. She had to know. She had to be sure they were too late. She hoped the bad energy was just from something else, but that was foolish and she knew it. |
