BroccoliStump ~ He/Him ~ Warrior

@open interaction

Step. Step. Step. Pause. Glance. Crimson Gaze. Continue. BroccoliStump occasionally glances behind the group, he hung in the very back, keeping an eye on his following mate. Who carefully stayed out of sight, though not out of nose. He hoped his own scent masked hers enough so she wouldnt be found too soon. he hated not being able to see her, but the clan was already going through a lot. he would wait until he was able to tell AppleStar alone then introduce her to them. It would hopefully help that TreePaw was a deputy's apprentice. Speaking of. where was she?
for the first time sense they seen eachother BroccoliStump's attention leaves Rocky(AKA, Moonfur) and he glances around for his daughter. somewhere out of sight. "TreePaw?" he calls out, hoping to see her.

Moonfur ~ She/Her ~ Outsider

@anyone who sees the red gaze?

Stay in the shadows. Dart to the next one. Wait. Watch. Eye contact. Dart to the next shadow. BroccoliStump had been the one that said it would be best to wait. But it hurt, so close yet so far. she could see him, smell him. hear him. but . . . she couldnt hold him. She stays silent, something she learned to do well, and watches. Following behind the clan was making her paws hurt, BroccoliStump had always had more endurnce. He barely looked tired! She wishes to stop for a rest but refuses to let herself. Keeping her eyes on her mate. Who she would never lose again.

TreePaw ~ She/Her ~ Apprentice

@open interaction

TreePaw watches her feet as she walks, occationally stopping to pick up a vine for leaf that she knew wouldnt last half a moon. She still tangles them into her long furr, as she does this, a bit stuck in her own world, she starts to separate from the clan. Walking further and further away from everyone slowly as she finds darker and more lucious leaves. After a while she looks up, the clan nearly out of sight! she hurries back over to them before grooming herself slightly and straightening her knew leaves and vines.

Blizzardwhisker — She/Her — Deaf
@Little Brown

Blizzardwhisker had been absently walking for a while. No cat had really spoken to her yet. The leaves in the brisk air were her only source of entertainment. At least she was warm. Older warriors— like herself, Cloversong, and Minkfur got the pleasure of being in the middle of the travelling group because of their age. Although it also felt a bit taunting. She was getting old, whether she liked it or not.

She wasn't ready for that realization. Over sixty moons had gone by, and what has she accomplished? She was a good warrior— she hoped, she really hoped, but she could never hope to achieve such great feats as deputy or leader. She hadn't even chosen to raise a litter. Who was she, other then just another clanmate?

She slows a little, and lets a ginger tabby slip by her, who didn't even give a passing glance. She finds herself looking behind her for a certain black tom, one who she hadn't really spoken with, because of her own fear. Plumflame. She and him had been mates, once. But when he wanted to start a official family, have kits, she said she wasn't ready. And he hadn't taken it well. She still wasn't going to forgive him— no cat should treat their mate so bad if they didn't get what they wanted. But who else did she have? She hadn't pursued a relationship with anyone else since then. And she wasn't getting younger.

His stout body was nowhere to be seen, and instead she sights a warrior pulling along the rogue kitten, who's name she hadn't heard. The warrior looked tired, their step's sluggish and appearing increasingly annoyed when the brown kitten squirmed in their grip. She could help there. She slows more, until she was walking beside the warrior, and tips her head. "Kitten, plea," she meows in a tone softer then average, although to her it was general. The warrior frowns, and flicks a ear. "What? Speak louder."

Blizzardwhisker squints as she tries to interpret the words smothered by kit fluff. "Kitten. I'll take it, okay?" The warrior grunts and drops the rogue kitten, and Blizzardwhisker snatches him by the scruff. "I am..Blizzardwhisker. You?" She hoped her odd way of speaking didn't alarm the kit.

Quailbristle — She/He/They
tw: mild suicidal idealization
@Lilacivy, Breammist

"Grumpy? He was being awful to you! My father wasn't ever that cruel." She sniffs disapprovingly, shooting daggers in Brokenclaw's direction. To be fair, Quailbristle hadn't really gotten to know her father. They had been friends at one point, until he dropped the fact that he was her father one day like a mouse on the freshkill pile. It had been a lot to take in, and he had died of the plague before she ever truly got to befriend him as father and kit. She wasn't sad about it, Shrikeswoop hadn't been much to her, but it was still a lingering thought. Would she rather have a terrible father, like Brokenclaw, or no father at all?

I wonder if she would mind if i asked her about that 'more RiverClan than Shadow' thing. Would that be prying too much? Maybe. Maybe maybe. But it's good to get out your frustrations, right? Quailbristle knew it would be. He wanted to get his stresses out— by tearing right into the flesh of those Nightwalkers. Maybe die in the process. He'd be with Hawkcry then, probably. Or at least avenge her. No matter what he did, it felt like he couldn't let the guilt leave, knowing that his own cowardice killed her.

"We're all on edge, but we don't take it out on our clanmates. Or daughters." They hissed, and then realized they didn't know this molly all that well. She knew Lilacivy, he was the deputy, of course, but this blue-gray slipped her mind. "I don't know you, do i? I'm Quailbristle. Lilacivy," they dip their head towards the deputy. "It's weird seeing you so far back! I though you'd be near Applestar."

Little Brown - Kit - he/him - Location: Beyond the Forest

@Blizzardwhisker

Little Brown had seen a white-furred warrior approach but wasn't able to see their face. His paws felt the ground as the warrior put him down. He was instantly distracted by something on the ground, and reached out to bat at it. Before he could investigate the thing on the ground, he was picked up once again, but this time by the white warrior. They introduced themself and their odd way of speaking piqued Little Brown's interest. He paused for a moment, a little surprised by Blizzardwhisker's voice, before deciding to introduce himself as well. "I'm Little Brown!" he squeaked before blurting out, "You talk weird." He didn't want to make Blizzardwhisker feel bad or anything, he was just... very blunt.

Succulentnettle - She/her

Succulentnettle's light forest green eyes glittered as she looked up at the sun. Her gaze was full of joy and fun, despite the current happenings in the clan. They may have been walking for an hour or more now, and to her it seemed like eternity in this moment - but she loved it. Occasionally she would let herself fall behind the back of the clan, letting the other cats completely out of her sight, and then run full speed back to them. She had gotten distracted and dropped the raven she was once holding, but she had since forgotten about it. Her fur was tangled with twigs and leaves but still held a yellowish glow to it; in the places it wasn't stained by blood, at least. Succulentnettle's raccoon-striped tail was held up happily, even if now wasn't the proper time to be this happy. She had never had this much energy before, not even when the clan had traveled to there previous location. In her mind she was free, overjoyed that she was included even if no cat properly noticed her. Anything bad didn't exist to her right now, and everything was perfect. She raced over to the side, and stopped to pounce on a leaf before quickly moving again to avoid being in any cat's way - not that she really remembered to stay out of the way, more so out of instinct. Her pupils were fully dilated in excitement, and she kept switching from skipping to complete bounding. Succulentnettle had ran into a few cats by accident..maybe like 5? but she ran away before they saw her - or she did'nt think she was seen, at least. Her pattern was very distinct, not that many cats had both stripes and rosettes in Stormclan, so chances are the cats had probably seen her, but she was too busy to realize this. She looked up at a tree, before immediately going to climb it and she followed the clan from it's branch for a little while; once that tree ended she leaped to the next and continued this.

With their paws just as heavy as their hearts, StormClan continued to push through the winding forest and escalating landscape in pursuit of Rho. It would seem that he was one of very few with a hopeful outlook. After what felt like another hour, the sun was barely above the horizon. They were running out of time, but fortunately...

They had arrived.

It was clear that their arrival was a predicted one, for cats of peculiar size with mud-covered coats waited for them with a glimmer of mistrust in their eyes. At the front of the welcome crew was a coat familiar to a few- dark lilac with hints of gold. Nightglory perked her ears in interest, and it was perhaps her eyes that were the most welcoming of all. She strained to see the others, clearly of the smallest for the time being. It seemed that there were...so few young cats like her. Her amber eyes possessed an even warmer glow when she spotted the apprentices. That seemed to confirm that she had very few playmates her age- or at least, she didn't have many friends.

"Would you fetch your father, lady Heiress?" Rho regarded Nightglory with a polite bow of his head, before the young she-cat nodded and dashed off toward an ominous rock den before disappearing inside.

Moments later, an impressive older-aged tom lead his daughter back towards the crowd. There was something strange about him- maybe it was the red paint that donned his form, or maybe it was the intimidating set of antlers that rested around his neck. Either way, he was not to be trifled with. Something in those honey-colored eyes...he knew something they did not, something ethereal, something they might never be able to grasp. "Cats of River, Wind, Thunder, and Shadow...once separate as four, then dwindled into two. You have come. I had seen your arrival, but at last it is here." His voice was deep, almost booming.

"...Greetings, Seer." The injured Applestar rasped as he shakily stepped forward, his form weakened from all the fighting and travel. He looked miserable, like a shell of his former exuberant self. "We are grateful for your help. The Nightwalkers-"

"I understand." The Seer interrupted while raising his chin, drawing in a deep breath. "Seldom do outsiders survive their first night. As a consequence, you have my interest...yet, outsiders can spell disaster for my home." Slowly, the large tom seated himself as he prepared for an explanation. "Sun's Garden is under protection since the previous Blood Moon, which had risen the night you arrived. While our garb are important from preventing the attraction of Nightwalkers, there is a more sinister magic they require."

"....Sinister?" Applestar echoed while furrowing his brows.

TW: Mentions of Sacrifice [no gore- just sadness]

"It is with the sacrifice of our own that our blood satiates the Nightwalkers until the next Blood Moon. It offers us a stronger sense of immunity, that is, the Nightwalkers will no longer invade our camp. However...your blood is different. Wind and River have come to mingle and accept that of Thunder and Shadow, yet Shadow and Thunder remain stubbornly separate. Your blood will draw the Nightwalkers near. Unless you obey our customs, I cannot protect you."

Erm...what? It felt like the earth had collapsed beneath Applestar's paws. This was absurd, but....he glimpsed towards the setting sun, feeling his stomach twist itself in knots. They were running out of time. Before long, the sun would have vanished beneath the horizon, and the Nightwalkers would be upon them again. It would be a massacre. "...I-I-" He was in shock. What was he supposed to do??? It felt like a real lose-lose situation.

"Fear not- this course is not barbaric. It is a great honor to sacrifice one's life for their people as a whole." With a small nod, the Seer motioned for Nightglory to drop a bundle of herbs. "The sacrifice consumes the bundle. They will fall into a peaceful sleep before they pass. Their body is placed upon the pyre so that the smoke can spread and feed the Nightwalkers to satiate their growing hunger. It is tradition for the Seer and his Heir to use the blood of the sacrifice in our paint, to bring us closer to the Nightwalkers for our visions. However, being that you have no Seer, that is unnecessary."

Applestar's eyes stretched wide. "B-But I- I can't just pick a clanmate to die, m-mister Seer! They're family. I-" His mind was drawing a blank. He was expecting change, but he didn't expect this.

"But with more cats requires more sacrifice." The Seer rumbled, raising his chin as he spoke down to the uneducated clan cats. "If we are to help, you must do your part. We of the Garden are all born under the same sun, but you...your clowder comes from two parts: one of thunder, and one of shadow. Your offer must be one part shadow and one part thunder."

The leader of the locals offered a small flick of his tail. "I could sacrifice more of my own and it might extend protection, but...it would be unfair to us, and no guarantee for you. Consider this not just a method of protection, but also a test of loyalty to us. If you will not do your part...we cannot help you. And we will not trust you. You will no longer be welcomed here, and you will be considered a threat to our own safety."

Applestar's head was spinning. Sacrifice, like what the Sun's Garden practiced? Throwing StormClan warriors onto the pyre to die...and not just one of them, but two? It was entirely unfair, but how could they possibly survive another night? Or even outrun the Nightwalkers, if they were as bloodthirsty as the locals painted them to be? If being hunted by the beasts was a curse, then...

"...What about the...erm, blood of one who is both?" The red tabby desperately spoke up, glimpsing up at Seer who raised his brow curiously at Applestar's offer. His mother, Magpie, was quick to snap in her son's direction.

"My son...what are you getting on about?" There was a hint of danger in her voice, but it was overwhelmed by her pressing concern.

The Seer nodded slowly to himself. "Yes, I suppose one who carries the blood of both would suffice."

"Applestar...Gala- don't you dare." Magpie's voice shook with grief as Applestar stepped forward with a nervous swish of his tail.

"Then I can do it." The leader responded while holding his breath. "StarClan granted me lives to spare. If they're still out there...then I'll only lose one, right? And...well, if they aren't there...well, I think I'm already dying after that fight, anyways." He allowed his gaze to fall to his paws. "-...Morningskies and Lilacivy are good cats. I know they can lead this clan well."

The cats of StormClan were slowly learning to bond again. He couldn't risk sacrificing two, only to break them up again.

He took another step forward to gently nuzzle against his trembling mother's side. "It'll be ok, mom. I love you. We'll get through this." Applestar offered her a gentle smile before he took up the bundle of herbs in his mouth, and swallowed. Before long, he found himself stumbling onto the ground while a pleasant warmth spread throughout his body. Before long, he was gone, and his body was returned to the pyre.

((Both my posts talk a little bit about sacrifice, esp Fadedpaw. Mainly their reactions to it, and the rest of what's under Mia's spoiler))

Fadedpaw - MCA - she/they - Location: Sun's Garden

@anyone, if anyone wants to be the cat to stop her in the last paragraph

Her fur had been standing on end every moment the sun ticked further down towards the horizon. And even when the clan entered the camp with the strange colored cats, smeared with mud, she was cautious. On high alert. Especially when the large tom, who was called the seer of this group, had come to take a look at the clan. Covered in red markings that weren't apart of his fur, and neck adorned with antlers. He was nothing like she had seen before, even StarClan couldn't have offered an explanation for the sights she saw.

Then he spoke of how his group protected themselves from the nightwalkers. Sacrifice. And Fadedpaw was horrified.

How could one willingly offer themself? How could any of these cats offer up a specific someone? Do they send up their parents, or kits? And did he say every moon? Just how long had they been doing this?

Fadedpaw thought of her mother, and she just couldn't imagine watching her die in such a way. Burning and having her blood being drawn as the group's leader and his family cover themselves with it. She shuddered.

Then Applestar offered up himself. As he had blood from both clans. Fadedpaw looked between him and his mother, no shock or look as if he was lying... He really was half ShadowClan then? And there wasn't much any cat could do as they watched in any kind of horror as their leader ate fatal herb, stumbling to her herb, and every part of her being and her training told her to run. Help him. Get some yarrow so he could spit it all up. Save him.

They had tried to run after him, but they felt themself be dragged back by a cat who's face they didn't see. Stopping them from helping their leader. And they watched, body shaking, as he was placed onto the pyre.

Snowwhisper - Warrior - he/him - Location: Sun's Garden

Sick, he felt sick. The seer spoke like he knew them all too well, like he was StarClan themselves, watching over their every move. And when he mentioned sacrifice, Snowwhisper almost threw up, feeling the bile catch in his throat, a horrified expression on his face. How could they so casually mention it? Every moon killing a cat, killing one of their own, killing family. Did they even consider each other family? Or were they cats who just lived together in order for protection?

Snowwhisper snapped out of his thoughts when Applestar spoke up, more confidently. blood of one who is both. I'll do it. What.  Blood of both. Blood of both. What did he mean he was one of both? Was he... also ShadowClan blood? And what about, wait— He'll do it?!

Applestar was going to sacrifice himself for the clan.

Amberblaze - warrior - they/she

Amberblaze drank in the surroundings. The warmth of Nightglory's gaze was the only warmth they felt from this place. The unfamiliar colors and decorations adorning the camp and its people frightened the warrior. How had they remained so safe in this place, she thought. That thought was quickly answered by their "seer", and his answer only horrified Amberblaze more. Did they really have to lose another life after they had lost so many? Why wasn't the blood of those who'd been killed by the Nightwalkers enough to sate their hunger at least for a few nights.

Applestar's words seemed to put everyone on edge. Amberblaze felt a tenseness within themselves as they watched the tom talk and move. Stuck in a trance until they spotted Fadedpaw readying to interject. Their feet moved before their mind had even given a sure statement, and their teeth found purchase in the scruff of Fadedpaw's neck as she dragged them back. "He has to do this. No one can change his mind," the warrior spoke through closed teeth.

Lilacivy - deputy- he/him

The deputy split slightly from his group he'd been walking with. If the clan needed to fight or be protected he would be near the front lines to jump in and defend who all was left. Applestar was also someone he wanted to keep a closer eye on due to the injuries he'd sustained during the fight. The entirety of Sun's Garden was off-putting, increasingly so as the seer spoke about the clans as if he was part of their history. It was frightening how much he seemed to know when it didn't seem like any cat had told him. Lilacivy found himself angered that the seer knew how much loss the clans had faced when he chose not to help them any in their battle the prior night. The tension of the setting sun prickled his fur.

At the mention of a sacrifice, his claws unsheathed. The tom was ready to fight. No more cats would die if he could help it. Despite all of their differences they were all still a clan, and they had all fought with each other like clanmates should. Applestar's immediate choice to sacrifice himself had Lilacivy speechless. A leader, choosing to abandon his clan when they needed it most. No one would accept both deputies as leaders, and the inner turmoil that would cause for the clan wasn't worth it. Lilacivy would've put himself in Applestar's place had he shared the blood of both. Both, he paused, a leader who wasn't a full clan cat, and it seemed like no one had ever known.

He watched in horror, frozen, as Applestar engaged in their ritual.

Cloversong-Elder-She/her-Location: Sun's Garden

Cloversong's fur rippled in horror as she listened to everything being spoken between the two leaders. Her thoughts racing as she tried to process what her eyes couldn't see. "Sacrifice?! That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. What a foxhearted thing to do." She hissed quite loudly. The normally diplomatic she-cat was disturbed by the very idea of cats being killed on purpose just so others could survive. Her cloudy green eyes widened in shock when she heard Applestar volunteer to subject himself to what these strange cats wanted. "Starclan save him..." she murmured, her head and tail drooping.

Newpaw-Apprentice-She/her-Location: Sun's Garden

The little she-cat stayed close to her mother and brother as they entered the strange camp. The distrustful glares they were recieving made her feel uneasy and she felt her furr rise along her spine. "Best behaviors, my loves." She heard Skystripe whisper. Newpaw looked around as they waited, and she was surprised to see a she-cat, who she assumed to be Nightglory based on how she was addressed by Rho, looking right at her and Littlepaw. Her pelt warmed and a feeling of shyness washed over her, but it didn't last long as Nightglory left to fetch her group's leader. Newpaw's eyes widened at the massive cat that appeared moments later. He was wearing something strange around his neck and she heard Littlepaw speak loudly. "Woah! They're so strange-" A moment later their mother hissed warningly. "Behave yourselves." Moments later she watched as Applestar swallowed some herbs, something about being a sacrifice. Skystripe moved to stand in front of Littlepaw and Newpaw, sheilding them as if expecting the other group to try something. The apprentice shook, pressing herself against Littlepaw for comfort only to feel him shaking too.

Stormclaw-Warrior-He/him-Location: Sun's Garden

The silver tom was stunned as he heard Cloversong's angry hiss. "What kind of leader sacrifices his own cats?" He questioned, not really talking to anyone. But he was definitely referring to the strange tom. He felt horrified at the idea of sacrificing any of his clanmates just to survive. That was definitely the exact opposite of what it meant to be a warrior. The warrior code asked a warrior to make sacrifices for their clan, not for themselves. But that didn't stop his horror from growing as he watched Applestar step forward, offering himself for the safety of Stormclan. "Applestar don't-" he started, but it was too late. Their leader had already eaten the herbs presented to him. Stormclaw's eyes scanned the crowd for Amberblaze, fear causing his heart to beat rapidly within his chest. What if Applestar's sacrifice wasn't enough? Would the other group force Stormclan to make a choice? He couldn't let anything happen to them, to any of his clanmates.

((My post includes stuff from under Mia's spoiler))

Crowheart - Warrior - he/him - Location: Sun's Garden

Crowheart stayed silent as he eyed these strange cats warily. He spotted the familiar pelt of Nightglory, who seemed excited that they were here. The Seer appeared, and his knowledge of the Clans unsettled Crowheart. It was like the Seer had received a prophecy of sorts, but not through StarClan. While Applestar and the Seer conversed, Crowheart listened.

"It is with the sacrifice of our own that our blood satiates the Nightwalkers..."

Crowheart growled softly under his breath. Sacrifice? Does he want us to pick a Clanmate to die? How is that different from cold-blooded murder? He felt the fur along his back rise but he forced it flat. The sun was setting and StormClan needed these cats' help if they didn't want to all be torn to pieces by the Nightwalkers.

"...Your offer must be one part shadow and one part thunder."

"You want two cats now?" Crowheart couldn't help but hiss out loud. He lashed his tail as he shifted his gaze over to Applestar. The red tabby looked pitiful next to the Seer with all his injuries and Crowheart knew Applestar had gotten hurt saving his life earlier in the battle. Did he feel guilty? Maybe. Maybe just a little.

"...What about the...erm, blood of one who is both?"

Crowheart blinked in confusion as Applestar stepped forward. Wh- Why's he stepping forward? He looked from Applestar to Magpie, then back to Applestar and understood. "Half-Clan..." he murmured disbelievingly, not sure how to feel. Should he feel happy that his leader was part ShadowClan? Even when it broke the warrior code? Nevertheless, there was a glimmer of respect in Crowheart's yellow eyes as he watched Applestar eat the herb bundle.

Featherspire — He/They/Xe — Med

mentions of death and sacrifice, assisted suicide(?)

@Crowheart, clan + sun's garden

The impressive tom that came forth caught the breath of the exhausted medicine cat, from both wariness and admiration. The… aura the tom held just radiated a calm, cautious demeanor, but with the edge all leaders required. It wasn't too unlike Applestar, they both held themselves somewhat similarly, but Featherspire wasn't that much younger then Applestar — this leader held the wear and tear that came with such a important role.

But he's not a leader, is he? He's a Seer. The word felt a bit weird at first when being applied to someone not from the clans; medicine cats were the morrow-seers of their clan after all, and Featherspire swallowed uncertainly. A leader and a medicine cat, at the same time? Great StarClan… No cat should have such power.

'sacrifice… satiates… the Nightwalkers…. The words went in and out of xer working ear, and Featherspire quickly caught on, and took a step back, pressing into the nearest warrior out of astonishment. Xe ended up colliding against Crowheart, but the chimera didn't budge, instead unsheathed xer claws. "A sacrifice..?" It felt so wrong… but what else could the cats do? If one cat was sacrificed.. it'd save so many more lives.

'your offer must be one part shadow and one part thunder' Featherspire arched xer spine and bristled, swinging his head around. Two cats had to die? Who would it be? Who would want to give their life to the clan just to be ripped to shreds. No cat seemed to be speaking up. Would i have to go? Applestar spoke up. blood of one who is both?

"half-blood!" featherspire whispers in surprise, and a small growl comes from his throat. He didn't care about your blood, not one bit, but it was shocking news at a time like this. The fur on his neck lowers, and he watches Applestar coolly. He would come back, surely.. it was one of his lives to save tens of cats. It'd be okay.

Applestar fell to the ground not long after swallowing the herbs. "Seer, can't we at least lay our own leader to rest?" he whines.

Blizzardwhisker — She/Her — Deaf
@Little Brown, others

Blizzardwhisker could see the calamity of cats as they met the Sun's Garden, and a discussion that she couldn't quite read. She was worried, but figured she would stay back. She watched with wide eyes as Applestar slumped to the ground after swallowing a herb bundle, and she raised a paw and covered Little Brown's eyes. "Oh no…"

Quailbristle — She/He/They
@Fadedpaw

She shoves to the front of the crowd, panting from effort. Her teeth clench as she hears of a sacrifice, and Applestar's offer of his own life because of his two-blooded nature. What if he doesn't come back? I should be up there. I'm Thunder-shadow, too. Surely my life would be worth the sacrifice so Applestar doesn't have a chance of dying? But the panic of the arguing cats makes her helpless and she watches Applestar fall to the ground.
