It would be nice for people with custom decors to have relaxed rules

Custom decors rules relaxing a bit is something I definitely look forward to! Just hoping it wont go too far backwards and allow anything. It can be annoying but sometimes rejection helps people improve.

I don't think the problem for the CD is that "the rules need to be relaxed". The problem is the inconsitencies among artwork.

1. Certains artists being held to higher standards than others
2. The default pose is much lighter colored than sentinel and relaxed, meaning that what works for a relaxed decor would not work as well on a default pose decor (Which has become a probem with even official wolvden decor like the mushroom tree growth and cloaks)

Very few artists are going to be able to copy numerous styles. And that's a large part of the problem in my opinion. The bases currently have 2 different styles. The default base is in large need of a relining to match the newer bases.

I'm not going to use Custom Decor examples because I don't want to call anyone in particular out, so here are some examples based on regulat site decor.

^ Light spots unable to properply match the decor

^ Same Issue

^Lineart is darker, not a problem.

I see absolutely no downside to making Custom Decor Applications more relaxed.

Long time artists almost seem targeted and nit-picked and where some new users encounter absolutely no issue at all despite there style not matching WD as much as these longer term artists.

Xy Is Borderline Impossible outside of Custom decor submissions to contact on a 1x1 basis and can take 6/12 months to get a response from (no hate) and I assume a large amount of development time Is just accepting custom decors, And or sending out messages to tweak In queue decors.

Although I think the true issue of this Is Wolvden no longer has a distinct style so the custom decor artists should also not be held to a distinct style either!

Below show two "Whitetail Deer Bucks" One was a 2019 (Or earlier) and the other Is 2022 when It comes to custom decoration mimicking the style of deer #1 is encouraged and #2 Is frowned upon despite being official In-game art work #2 would probably actually be denied as a custom decor.

I see nothing wrong with the above art, but they are great example of different styles.

I agree Alibird. The lineart style for wolvden has darked since original development to a noticible degree. While I have nothing wrong with this and love all the art, it does make things difficult for artists trying to match the styles

Double agree on Alibird's statement. I believe it's important to hold Custom Decor to a standard, but for that standard to be higher than current official art is unfair.

As someone who has made a ton of custom decor- hell yes to the poll. The rules make no sense for several reasons, the comments on this news post point this out really well- the actual official wolvden style is inconsistent. They judge artists based on talent too- like, if you're better, they give you far harsher criticism. So, mediocre decors get through and yet more talented artists submit things of similar quality and have them rejected. There is so much wrong with the custom decor system right now, and while the art style fixes won't solve everything (like the issues with acceptance time) it's a step in the right direction. I've had decors get rejected for being too sharp and then after I soften it the most miniscule amount it gets called too soft. A change in the review system would be groundbreaking and allow for so much more creative freedom. Don't get me wrong, I still want custom decors to match the wolvden style- I absolutely still think that is a valid rule. But the wolvden style isn't this clearly defined monolith, it's many different variations that have changed significantly over the years. When we're told to "match the wolvden style," it's essentially a shot in the dark. Custom decors following the more recent style aspects like darker linework might be rejected, even though it shows up in official wolvden art. While custom decors that follow the old, traditional wolvden style, might be rejected because of things like lack of linework etc. It's extremely contradictory at the moment. There should be better defined rules, and some update to the official style guide to reflect this. At the moment, it almost feels like Xylax flips a coin to decide what to accept. If you've made many decors, you cannot realistically make all of the decors the same way and get all of them accepted because the review qualities vary so drastically. I have so many decors that if I would have submitted them today, they would no doubt be rejected. They change their standards and don't tell anybody about it- you're just left to figure it out on your own.
