@Whirligig said: "I'm still not seeing how stripping travelers of their decor and chasing/keeping them isn't okay, but taking the pups that someone else spent the resources to breed is okay. They both have to do with someone else keeping YOUR stuff without your permission, under the excuse that they 'own' it, not you." In terms of pup ownership, I really like the suggestion from earlier that if a weaning mother is recalled, the pups will automatically be sent back to the pack that bred them when they wean. (I don't play LD so I don't know how this works with pup survival and such, but the concept seems sound) @Maladi: "I think if travellers *are* given the option to be breedable, the puppies should be held in limbo, similar to Lioden cubs with reverse breeding (I know they're separate games, just using it as an example!) And after weening they're returned to the pack that mom was in when she was bred." |

I imagine it as a dedicated page in the Crossroads (maybe even called "Travelers Crossroad"). When you send out your traveler, it goes to that page and is added to the list of available travelers, a bit like what happens with enclave pups. Players who want to host go there and claim one of the wolves in the list. Players can be both left freedom to choose which traveler they want to host, or be forced to get the first one available (this would make it more fair and assure some travelers are not ignored and never hosted). It's up to devs to decided which option would be best. After they have hosted the traveler for whatever period of time they want/is set by the owner, they would send the traveler back to the Crossroad and be free to take another one (or more) in from the list. While awaiting for a host to get them, travelers would be in a limbo in which they don't age up nor lose mood/hunger. The recall button would still let the owner call back their travelers from both their actual host or from the limbo if the traveler is waiting to find a host. And maybe there could be a tab where you can see infos about your travelers, like what is their mood/hunger status, their age, and if they are been hosted or if they are in the limbo awaiting. One of the biggest problem I had when I participated in travelling wolves was that sometimes it was complicated to set up a traveler swap with another player. You had to post that you had Traveler A ready to go, wait for someone else to tell you they could take them in, set up the trade and often wait for the other player to be online for the actual swap. Most people had travelers ready to go but not space to take a new one in, so they couldn't swap, and you could find yourself trying to send out a travelers for days before managing to find someone ready to swap. It could become quite stressful, honestly, especially if you hosted more than one travelers. [EDIT] It would work basically like the Enclave, with a drop down menu to send travelers on their way, and a list where you can claim available travelers. The only difference is that travelers aren't deleted after a rollover when in the limbo and just stay there A send/pick up limbo with a list would probably require more coding, but it would make swapping travelers so much more easier and immediate. And it would let people not interested in it free to never click on that page and never be bothered by travelers, just like people not interested in minigames don't click on the Games page or people not interested in having contact with other players don't visit the Chatter. (It could also help players who aren't comfortable with social interactions with other players to still partake in the traveling mechanic) |

My first worry with that is if there are more travelers than hosts, many wolves will sit in limbo for a long time. It's not so much a problem for the owner because they can just call the wolf back, but this feature could be very taken advantage of as a way for people to store wolves and keep them from aging. Imagine, you put a wolf in the page. There's already many wolves there, so the chances your wolf is picked is low. Still, if someone picks your wolf, you can just call them back to your den, and throw them back into the page. Sure, you could do cooldowns and stuff to make sure you can only drop 1 wolf in per day, or only let each wolf in once a day, but even then there will be issues. The alternative is to make them age in limbo, but what happens if they die? Will they be fed and played with in limbo? While it's a cool idea in theory, it really has a lot of grounds for abuse, and trying to avoid the abuse will be a monumental and overcomplicated task for the admins. |

You make a really good point. While the unbalance between hosts and travelers might be partially resolved by allowing only one traveler per pack, I didn't think about the possible abuse of using it to "freeze" wolves. Maybe allowing aging in the limbo and putting an age limit to when travelers can be sent to the list? Like, if your travelers is older than 7yo, they can't travel anymore, so they can't die in the limbo? And if players are forced to take the first traveler available in the list and not one of their choice, would that help in having every travelers move somewhere at some point and not just stay in the limbo forever? But yeah, it's hard to balance a mechanic to avoid abuse |
