Seeing that Hoarfrost has gone too, he got up momentarily to dig himself a more comfortable snoozing spot. Snow, rocks and dirt flying aimlessly at others near him as he created a small divot for himself on the ground. He rolled around in the dirt to soothe his aching skin, kicking up more dust. "Aye, this pack is cold in both atmosphere and literal sense." He snorted, talking to no one in particular but aiming it at anyone listening. |

Hearing the older wolf's joke, Pearl laughed a bit, turning to greet him with a bow. "Hello, sir!" She called. "I'm going hunting, just to practice one last time before the test. Will you come with me?" |

"I could do that. Not doing much now. And no need to call me sir, I'm not really worth titles." Picking up his antler, he got up from his dustbath. "Where to? Down by the river or woods?" |

The adolescent dipped her head. "The river, perhaps?" She cleaned her paws yet again in the fresh snow. "And sir, you're my superior, and elder." She lowered her head again. "Shouldn't I address you with respect?" |

"Just keep a healthy distance from the current. Can't have anything happen right now." |

Pearl nodded, glancing at the river. It was always most active in the summer, when the glacier would melt most. The current wasn't as fast as it had been near the beginning of the warm season, when it would roar so loudly it was impossible to hear anything else. Glancing around, Pearl spotted a rather large arctic hare. Flexing her claws, she rushed towards it, her quick steps clean and practised. It glanced around in shock and ran, throwing Pearl off, before she managed to right herself and stab her claws into the hare's spine. She winced, shaking her bloodstained claws and wiping them on the snow. "That was messy," she said apologetically, nudging the carcass. Suddenly, a squeaking noise interrupted her. Pearl looked up to see a den. The hare's den. And leverets. "Oh, no," Pearl winced again. "I- uh- sorry, I chose the wrong prey." She looked down at her feet, as if waiting for Poltergeist to admonish her. |

He stood completely still so she can focus, blending in with the rocky river bed. Seeing her catch the hare he jumped up and yipped excitedly. Trotting towards her he noticed her demeanor, calming himself a little. He glanced towards the den, letting out a quiet huff. "Hey that's quite alright. It's not the only hare around here, besides there's plenty of time to find more. Great catch I say." He very gently patted her head with the antler he carried, his paws too wet to do that. |

A bit confused, Pearl nodded. "Thank you," she said with a small smile, bowing her head. "Sir." A tiny, mischievous grin played across her face, and she poked her kill. "Would you... do you have any tips?" She nodded at the river. "Maybe catching fish? I tried before but didn't have anyone to teach me and I fell in the river." Pearl winced a bit. "Mother was so mad, she didn't let me go outside for days." She recalled her mother's fiercely protective face as she clutched her shivering, sopping-wet body close, telling her angrily how stupid she was to go near the river without any adult nearby. She'd been a pup at the time. |

"This part is too tough. Bears are more better at that, with them long claws and all. If you want to try fishing, we're going downstream to this pool area." He pointed towards the gentler stream below a small waterfall where the river split in two. The current was calmer and risking a bear encounter was smaller. "I may not be all buddy buddy with yer mum but water is risky. Crossed a river once with three others. They're not here anymore, all thanks to the merciless wild waters." He spoke without much emotion, but didn't seem too bothered. "Wild waters make cruel wonders, one said." "I can lend some more tips about hunting a little later, see if you got the knowledge before tomorrow." |

Pearl nodded, standing up on her thin legs. "Understood," she said with a small smile, mimicking her mother's calm, bored voice. "Maybe we should go back, in that case." She looked down at the hare, bleeding into the soft snow, and padded over to it, her paws crunching through the white ground. "I should probably get the carcass backā¦" Pearl looked a bit ashamed, glancing at the torn fur. "Mother would have loved that pelt," she said softly, poking it. "I'll sneak it into the ice cave." |
