Hello to anyone who happens to be reading this! This is the lore/backstory for my pack, the Nunatak Wanderers, and it's very much a WIP right now. This isn't a private thread (I've already reserved the entire first page lol) so feel free to comment!

NUNATAK WANDERERS
The Nunatak Wanderers are a pack of she-wolves in Alaska's Chugach National Forest who worship the four Sister Goddesses. They believe in emulating this sacred sisterhood by focusing on female companionship.

PACK ROLES

Leader
The Leader is a wolf who demonstrates the characteristics of all four goddesses. She is chosen by her pack at a Daybreak Gathering, and from then on, she is in charge of overseeing the pack.

The Leader patrols the pack's territory daily and defends it from threats. She leads all Congregations, Spirit Reclamations, and Annum ceremonies. She is also responsible for organizing Huntresses into hunting parties based on her knowledge of the wolves' personalities and strengths.

Kindred Spirit (featured wolf)
The Kindred Spirit is chosen by the Leader as someone who complements the Leader's abilities similarly to how the goddesses complement each other's. She is chosen at a Congregation, when the Leader presents her with a necklace she has crafted. The chosen wolf can be the Leader's mate, though the Kindred Spirit connection is usually a platonic one.

The Kindred Spirit acts as a second-in-command to the Leader, assisting her on patrol and holding ceremonies when the Leader is unable to. The Leader doesn't need to choose a Kindred Spirit, but having one strengthens the pack. When there is no Kindred Spirit chosen, the pack's eldest wolf takes on the duty of holding ceremonies in the Leader's absence.

(For Wolvden purposes, the Kindred Spirit is marked as a solo hunter.)

Creation Story
Long ago, four wolf pups were whelped from nothingness. These were the Sister Goddesses: Yaamaq, Qilak, Mecaliqaq, and Unguwaq. The sisters were incredibly close, but as the only beings in existence, they were lonely. As such, they decided to create the Earth, a place for wolves like them to call home.

Yaamaq began by creating a huge rock. She forged mountains and valleys, enriching the land with beautiful minerals. She made sure to carve out caves in the landscape, so the wolves would have a place to live.

Qilak went next: she created the sky to surround the Earth. She invented time, as she knew life would be meaningless without it. She asked her sister, Yaamaq, to put rocks in the skyβ€”the sun and moonβ€”so she could create day and night, light and darkness. Yaamaq went one step further: she made stars, too, for wolves like her who loved all things beautiful.

Mecaliqaq, ever the helper, poured gorgeous ocean water into the large caverns in Yaamaq's rock. To assist Qilak in measuring time, she created clouds of rain and snow, inspiring Qilak to create the four seasons.

Unguwaq surveyed the work her sisters had done, and was happy. With a smile, she brought life to the Earth, filling the planet with plants and animals of all kinds, including wolves. She gave everything a lifespan, as everything had a place in the threads of Qilak's time.

The four goddesses watched over their creation from high in Qilak's sky. They thought their work was complete, that this was the best it could be. That was, until rainy season came along. Mecaliqaq noticed how much Unguwaq's living things loved the fresh water that rained down upon them. To better their lives, she made rivers and lakes for nourishment.

The sisters realized how much they empowered each other; none of them could have created Earth on her own. It was only by creating together that they were able to end up with something so wonderful. They revisited the wolves that Unguwaq had put on Yaamaq's land. Each goddess put a piece of herself into the she-wolves, thus giving them the capacity to experience female bonds the way that the sisters did.

It remained important to the Sister Goddesses to keep a watchful eye on their Earth, taking the time to make life better for the wolves, and bestow gifts of skill upon them. To this day, the sisters watch over Earth, ensuring that every she-wolf's moment in time is worthwhile.
