BLACK FRIDAY - CYBER MONDAY SALE!

Posted 2022-11-26 03:49:32
Personally I don't mind the Black Friday sale. While there are some RNG elements to it you are at least guaranteed to get some rare items even if they are ones you've already gotten you can always go to the TC and look for swaps. Besides that, why shouldn't you get something special for spending real world money on this game? No, not everyone will be able to afford it, but it does help incentivize people who can, which in turn helps keep this game running (devs have bills to pay too). As far as the mutations go, they are going to become more widespread, that's just how this works. I remember when people were scrambling to get their hands on albino wolves and now you can get one for a pretty good price. I hardly see this as a "pay to win" as there is no way to even win at a game like this. Your goals are your own, and you don't need to have mutations in order to have a fun experience, nor do you need to spend a dime of real world money in order to have fun. Black Friday is the only time I spend my money on this game, and I enjoy doing so because of the unique prizes. They are a nice bonus, but they hardly make me a "winner" at the game just because I'm willing and able to spend my money here.

thank you for sharing your point lisitsa (#32507), i understand what you mean now. i'll still politely disagree, it's probably cause our viewpoints, regarding these types of games, differ. as jackie (#10289) said, it's nice to have some "special thankyous" for people that support this game financially while also paying attention not to make the game "pay to win". on wolvden, everyone has their own goals and it depends how much you have to spend or grind to achieve them.
having a g1 piebald is a very specific goal. checking the trading center is the best option right now. since it's a new mutation, it'll be hard to obtain, of course, but give it a month and it'll pretty much be the same as any other. however, this is currently the only mutation that requires someone to spend irl money. every other one is either random or requires grinding. it's kinda similar with the gc market. someone had to spend money to get gc and give them to other players (by buying their stuff or smth).
ragarding the "being a lesser player" part, i have to point out that the devs often listen to the community (travelling wolves are a great example), there's also a suggestion forum and all the polls, raffles, etc. (which are pretty much free) during community updates. i barely spent any money on this game, yet feel very engaged and comfortable. i really hope sales like these don't effect you too much, cause every player is important, the whole community is the one that keeps wolvden going.
the gambling part you mentioned kinda confuses me, if i'm honest. every item in the black friday sale is considered good, there's no rarity scale (unless i'm missing smth). how satisfied you are with the outcome only depends on your taste. the only other gambling games would be slots, which have a 5 spin limit, and player raffles. i don't have much knowledge on gambling laws to comment on that, specially cause they vary a lot in europe.

Thank you too! Most likely you are right about it, we could continue finding pros and cons of this situation until the end of the times, but in the end our point of view would still differ haha! And about special "thankyous" I totally agree, until it's a special decoration - I wouldn't even mind if they would be account linked - but otherwise (in my opinion)  the free to play title won't entirely apply to the game.

I wouldn't think G1 Piebald is a very specific goal, as I have already seen multiple G1 Pies, as this is a new feature and I think everybody wants to bring out the most of the mutation income-wise, by using the applicators on their studs.
With that statement the devs often listen to community, I agree, as I adore that new markings, decors and other items are often added based on poll results.

About gambling, I see your point, I love all the BF decors and items so far too, but in case if you want to get a specific item, it's not guaranteed, that you will get what you want for your money. In case if you could choose, what item you got from a package, I would agree with this whole BF thing on Wolvden more, but it's quite possible that this system makes determined players pay more, just to gain an item that they would like to get.

I'd like to reiterate that this is nothing new. MoDs have been a thing for years on Lioden for BF buyers and again, I don't think they're going to change their minds about this, and honestly, I wouldn't want them to. It's nice to have exclusives sometimes; if people can't or don't want to pay, that's their choice. As an adult, it's your choice whether you want to spend real-life money on a game. There is no "pay to win" on Wolvden, you will eventually get the mutation without paying a cent. That's just how it is. I once paid 20 GC for a Lavender and now look at them, they're worth like 10 SC lol you just have to be patient.

As for the "gambling" aspect of it, again, your choice to spend your money to see if you get what you want. I'm happy with whatever I get just for the $50 tier. I'm not that picky, and like it was said, you can trade items if you don't like them.

Everyone is missing the point.
I've supported the early access.
And got last year's black Friday.

This is the only one that has a mutation that can be passed. Before it was backgrounds and decors. Cosmetic items don't effect the community like genetic items do!

If you were okay with 'just supporting the devs' you would be okay with just cosmetics. I have logged in almost every day since early access and have put a couple hundred in the game over the years. I SUPPORT THE DEVS. I don't support the FOMO with genetic (effects gameplay)

Should always be cosmetic ONLY.

P.S. you can look up this guy who would give speeches about loot box 'tactics', he was teaching companies how to effectively use loot boxes (I AM NOT SAYING WOLVDEN DOES ANY OF THESE OR WOULD DO ANY OF THESE INTENTIONALLY)  but he talks about whales(their terms not mine) FOMO, ice breaker, monetary progression, adaptive purchases. All of these are very aggressive marketing practices...

... I'm just trying to make sure one of my favorite games doesn't go down the PATH OF THE DARK SIDE!

I... honestly don't think you're getting the point lol Black Friday has always had exclusive decor and backgrounds for those who want to support the game, and as I've said before MoDs have been a thing for years that are only released during Black Friday. The only difference is that they decided to implement MoDs to Wolvden this year for the first time.

As for the gambling side again, this game is not "pay to win", there's nothing to win besides a mutation. This isn't a gacha game, this isn't going to get you an advantage in the game. It's just a neat little applicator. This game isn't going to break down and "go down the dark side" just because you disagree with exclusives coming out once a year. Devs have the right to do these sorts of things, it's a nice little gift to those who want to support the game. I completely understand the lootbox figure, this isn't it. This isn't a lootbox. If it was, they'd have it be a thing constantly, but it's just once a year.

There is no FOMO. I don't understand the fear of never getting a mutation like this when it will be a common thing in a few months via breeding. The only difference is you can't apply it how you want. I'm not upset that I can't make Fox applications because of how much goes into making one. So I'm not sure I understand the fear, it's just an item. It doesn't give you any sort of advantage whatsoever in the game besides having a G1 mutation wolf, which I'm sure will eventually show up via Befriending.

I feel like you did not read anybody's comments since the last time you commented.

Maybe you should try reading what people type instead of just spewing out the same talking points.
Just my opinion.

Edit: this is not lioden. (The devs even ask us not to talk about that game here)

I know next to nothing about mutations. But will Piebald eventually show up via Befriending? I know usually a mutation is wiped when a wolf is chased and I missed it if this was going to be something that would eventually show up on NBW encounters.

Also - I don't mind that certain items are bonus gifts during Black Friday. I understand a little of how games need income to survive. While it may seem unfair that only people who are paying IRL $ can have the mod app now without paying a lot of GC, eventually wolves with piebald should be available. Just not right now. I'm sure that has been covered by someone's post prior to mine. After Black Friday last year I specifically set aside a little $$ throughout the year so I could buy some this Black Friday. But I do think that it may be worth looking at the pass rate of that new background.
