The Remaining Wisp

🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑

The Remaining Wisp is meant to be a small, young pack just beginning to form. However, despite their small quantity of pack members, they are strong and healthy, pushing through each season with strength.

Each leader of the pack has been assigned to start recording pack history to keep their memory strong and alive, all starting with December, the first leader.

The Beginning

A soft breeze ruffles the fur along the female's ears as she walks across a field,  the grass becoming green waves rippling across the ground, brushing against her silver paws. Winter, her sister, walked beside her, Winter's green eyes almost identical to the ground beneath their feet. December's eyes were much different, blue eyes as icy as frost and deep as an ocean. However, warmth could be found hidden in those blue hazes.
They walked on, searching for signs of a prey-rich home. December hoped for something with much more coverage, a lot less like the open field they padded across. She imagined a pine forest clustered next to a sloping mountain, stretching towards the sky, jagged peaks scraping the blue. Though hardly mentioned, Winter had given hints she was looking for a meadow just like this one. December shivered at the thought of living in such openness. They were much more prone to dangers out here.
The first splash of rain landed on her nose, followed by more that erupted from the sky. December grumbled out loud, shaking raindrops from her fur just as more soaked her gray and silver coat. Winter appeared to almost enjoy the rain.
"Oh, I love it when it rains! The sky is such a pretty dark gray. It gives you a cozy feeling like you're right at home," she sang, bounding with joy through the grass. December snorted, watching the immature Winter. She was much more pup-like than any grown wolf December had ever known.
A rumble of thunder growled in the distance, causing Winter to skid to a halt. As soon as lightning hits, Winter is right into hiding, forgetting about how 'lovely' the rain is.
December looked around frantically for shelter. All she could see was grass stretching either way, offering no cover. She looked to the ground, seeing only one option left. She began to dig, rain lashing at her fur and becoming more violent as her paws squelched through the mud. She tore away the grass with her teeth and worked at the thick mud, digging fiercely. Winter rushed by her side to help before digging a shallow hole.
Mud stuck to every hair on her body. She attempted to lick it off but only made it worse, smearing mud all over her coat. Giving up, she stepped inside the dip and curled into the dark brown, Winter following shortly after to squeeze next to her.

Soon the rain had cleared, Sunlight poking through the dark gray and spreading light across the field. December blinked open her eyes, allowing herself to scan her surroundings. She was still in the shallow dip she had dug, Winter nestled close to her, soft snores escaping from a half-open muzzle. She let out a sigh and gathered to her paws, nudging her sister gently.
"Time to get up!" The female murmured. Winter opened her eyes and let out an enormous yawn, getting up to stretch. December stood up as well, looking around the field. She froze at the sight of mountains, almost blurry from such far away, stretching across the horizon. She felt drawn into a trance. This could be home!
Looking back at her sister, she knew Winter would never agree to live in the mountains. Perhaps they should just split up. That thought sent a shudder along her spine. Life without her sister! Despite how annoyed she could get with Winter, December still loved her sister more than anything.
"So where are we going?" Winter asked, a huge yawn escaping her jaws. December let out a sigh, shooting her sister a look out of the corner of her eye.
"I'm not sure, I was waiting for your input first," December said, a sharp edge entering her voice. "After all, we're both supposed to agree on a home."
Winter paced around the muddy field, face narrowed in obvious concentration though she was yet to give a response.
December's mood was starting to sour. She had a feeling both she and Winter would be arguing today.
Finally, Winter's pacing stopped. Her green eyes had brightened, a spark of an idea brimming in her green hues. December groaned inwardly. Winter got this look every time she thought of something that December didn't like.
