To address a couple of points:

Why not make this change with the NPCs permanent?
We wanted to keep the integrity of sexual preference and not just force all NPCs to date any gender as we believe representation of different sexualities is important.  We wanted to be more explicit with NPC sexualities but fumbled with some of the labels (what do you call someone who only likes female and non-binary - lesbian? bisexual? omnisexual?) so we have already simplified a very complex thing by just listing gender preferences.

The NPCs are hand-crafted by our staff team - almost everyone who works for us was involved in some way in creating and bringing these characters to life - and to erase any of the details of the NPCs feels wrong to us.  We sought permission from everyone involved before we went ahead with this change, and everyone was fine with it being a temporary fix.

What about maxing out negatively?
So, it's faster to reach the lowest affection because we didn't want it to be an unforgiving situation if you accidentally make it to the bottom, to then turn it around and reach the top.  It takes only 30 points to reach the lowest of -30, and 50 to reach the highest.  This then means it's easier to reach the bottom than the top, resulting in any potential rewards being easier to obtain.  It would also be double the work, when max affection rewards are already a "scope creep" (or additional unexpected work).

We have chosen just to reward the maximum affection for now, we may add rewards for negative affection in future but that is not planned for this year.

I hope that all makes sense - sorry to those who are pushing for negatives!

this decor will come with 20 uses which we believe will be more than enough to be able to use it persistently until the event comes around again


I'm yet to meet somewolf who has used any decor at least 5 times within a year and learn why.

I'm really glad the staff addressed this. At first, I was really happy with the event, but as it went on, I discovered places where it was lacking, and I slowly became more and more disappointed with it. But I am so glad that the staff listened to what the players were saying and did something about it. So thank you.

I personally would prefer it if the new CD was able to NOT cover the wolf, as it somewhat defeats the purpose of making a wolf look cool. I would have preferred having an option for the CD to either take the place of and cover the wolf, or "join" the wolf, rather than covering it. None the less, I am really glad they added something for getting to full hearts with a dateable wolf. <3 		Dakota (semi-inactive)

y'all did incredible with this event. i'm enjoying it throughly and personally feel that the amount of effort that went into fair representation and variety in gender and preferences is a complete success

i don't want to discount others concerns, they are valid, but i need to give credit where credit is due especially considering the complexity of this event with it's broad range of NPC's and matchable wolves

i can't imagine many of us players could take on the amount of coding (and other cool jargon i am totally unaware of) that went into preparing and carrying out something like this so thank y'all for the statement, but i am utterly impressed with how amazing this event has been so far!

beautiful artwork in explore and portraits, creative designs, a ton of fun flavor text, dope decor, cute ass bases. big props

Oh, Abbey, I have a suggestion for negative max! Award item that makes your wolf vanish? :O Once you reach -30, the NPC refuses to date with you, right? So you cant reap both rewards. And it makes sense to award such an item, 'cause the wolf that doesnt like you so much wishes to, exactly, "vanish" and not meet you anymore, so its perfect sense even lore-wise.
So maybe, for 50, decor + vanishing item. For -30, just the vanishing item? AND if you already got vanishing item from -30, then no vanishing item for 50? (that would probably be best for next year indeed) 		Mad Hyena

After thinking for a while, I actually don't mind no reward for negatives as long as I can buy them from other players but thank you Abbey for reasonable answer. I want to mention a few points though:
  • When a player starts dating without knowing anything about the NPC, the player has a better chance to start out with a couple of positive points due to okay gift giving 1 point which is the offset from the balance between positives and negatives.
  • A player is unable to date with NPC below -20 affection so daily affection decrease after this threshold might be lower.
  • A player going for min out earns potentially 10 Lovebugs less daily for every NPC that cannot be dated due to this low affection. There's no such penalty when maxing out affection.

Awesome updates to add depth to the event! I love the idea of the decor for the dateables, that makes a lot of sense and is a good reward for them.
