Equinox Gathering
- " You've been alone for a long time, haven't you? "
A soft voice calls, startling you awake, a gray-ish white wolf with long streaks of black in her fur stands right beside you.
Before you even get a chance to speak, she continues:
- " Come with me, no one deserves a life of solitude. "
Despite your better-judgement, you decide to follow her.
Peaking in the horizon, an ancient oak tree stands in the vast and open plains, the empty landscape serves to emphasize the stature of this great wooden beast. Large roots erect from the ground creating a system of burrows just below the trunk, branches hold the weight of a canopy so dense that the shadows it casts reminds you of nighttime.
A small wolf pack calls this place home, making their dens under the protective roots of the oak, it feels like a safe haven from the harsh winds and conditions of the prairie. A couple of wolves from this pack rush to meet you, they ask you to tell tales of the travels you've made, you oblige and they seem delighted, responding with tales of their own, before you know it, you're knee-deep in swapping stories and conversation.
Eventually, the sun sets, and the same gray-ish white wolf drags you away from the crowd.
- " My packmembers pride themselves as storytellers, we enjoy singing tales of old and writing new legends from things we see and hear. You seem like you fit right in. "
She signals for you to follow, and you do so.
As you walk, you notice that the oak is decorated trinkets and small offerings, a few jayfeathers hang from some branches, a small collection of scavenged antlers sprout from old cracks on the base of the tree and a couple of hand-picked flowers decorate the enterings to a couple of the burrows. Although rather strange, it does make the place feel cozier.
She leads you to the local herbalist's den, a freshly-killed rabbit is laying on top of a large leaf.
- " If you wish to stay with us, my pack will welcome you with open arms. But, if the open road is what you desire I won't force you to stay. "
The herbalist grabs the rabbit and drops it at your paws, it's a bit small but it's a nice gesture.
- " The herbalist will tend to your wounds, if you have any. "
The gray-ish white wolf exists the den, leaving you alone with your meal and a new acquaintance. The thought of joining wanders your mind for a while, filling your head with a longing for companionship and a sense of pack purpose, however the desire to travel and explore is something that will always stay, anxiety creeps in and your mind starts clouding up, thoughts of self-doubt and suspicion enter your mind, your head is racing and-
The herbalist nips your ear, he lays down beside you and helps himself to the half-eaten rabbit you forgot about, despite no words being exchanged, his presence calms you down.
Somehow, this place already feels like home.
