All yearling wolves must spend 6 months to a year as a pupsitter before they can pick another role such as scout, herbalist, or hunter. This rule is only suspended when the pack has no puppies to be watched, older pupsitters may retire and become mentors instead, teaching the newest generation how to survive and the rules of the pack. They can take on this role once they have passed 7 years of age.
