The swamp greets you with the rattling of cypress branches and the symphony of the local fauna. The chirping of crickets and cicadas is bellied by the croaking of frogs and the monotonous buzzing of mosquitoes. Leaves crunch and mud squelches under your feet. Approaching the biome at night is met with the dim flicker of fireflies, though their mystical presence holds no reassurance for the footsteps that are syncopated to yours.
The Trees are ancient, thriving off the rich soil and boundless waters. They hold stories of the dead that enrich their dirt and scar their wood, but they have no mouths to talk as far as you know. However, the multitude of eyes peering through the branches and under the roots and between the burls seem unkind. The waters are murky with blooms of algae in some patches, but crystal clear in others, sparkling under the light. Soaking through your fur, It's cool and refreshing compared to the humid heat that's been clinging to you during your journey. Best to watch your step though, because the gators and snakes peeking from the surface certainly don't like intruders.
The Bayou
Welcome, Traveler! You seem to have made it in…mostly one piece…Well! That's certainly more than most can say in these parts, Congratulations! Your reward? You can kick back and relax for as long as you need here along the bayou. A lot of those two legged critters built dens here a long time ago, but they're long gone. You're more than welcome to take up one of them as a good place to recoup…
Oh! And maybe don't go out at night. If you do, don't come back until sunrise. Things tend to follow you in the night, and we don't want none of that. Have a nice stay, and remember not to look at things for too long!
