The Whispering Stalk Pack was founded 42 years ago by Ophelia and her mate Kainan. It has thrived from biome to biome over the many generations. The pack gained its namesake for how the pack was at the start, quiet as a whisper. The pack is now much larger and nowhere close to as quiet as it used to be, but they haven't the heart to alter the name after all this time due to the deep respect all the members have for their pack's founder, descended from past members of the pack or not.
They have survived through many hardships. From many members leaving to "find better packs," to the passing of many experienced and valued members from illness or old age all at once, to even pups being lost due to illness or injury.
Even still, the pack has grown greatly in numbers and has remained stable. While there are times when they still struggle with their stock of supplies, they still do their best to take care of one another the best they can. The newest leader, Elara, is imaginative and has high hopes for the pack, she plans to do her very best to make sure they survive and succeed.
Pups within the pack, unless adopted into it, do not gain an actual name until they are "of age" at 1 year old. Being able to stay within the pack and gaining their "true name" is seen as a "rite of passage" for them. The pups born into the pack being referred to as "x boy" or "x girl" in some form related to their base coat and birth gender, and occasionally even their eye color, is standard for their start in life. Pups that are adopted into the pack, due to their origins being different, are automatically given a name by their adoptive parents or the pack leader, or they already have one that fits them well enough.
