Conexus

You find yourself in an unfamiliar lands in a eerily silent forest. Tall oaks tower over you and shield the forest floor from the skies above. The land is relatively flat save for a few grassy knolls here and there. Foliage and bushes of many varieties line the small dirt path that you're taking through the woods. All is quiet for quite some time as you walk, the only creatures you've encountered here is a plethora of Monarch Butterflies. You had never seen so many in one place...it was strange but pleasant all the same. Admiring the serenity of the autumn woods you almost miss a small path that forks from the main one. Noticing the smaller path, you decide to be adventurous and take it. The narrow path twists and turns as it leads you to a lake hidden in the heart of the forest. As you approach the lake you see a figure sitting at its shore. A noble looking wolf sits, staring out into the large lake. His fur is a mixture of fiery orange, black, and white. You can't help but think of how his fur reminded you of all the butterflies you had seen earlier in your travels through the woods. The wolf's ears twitch curiously as you approach, and he turns his head slowly over his shoulders to meet your gaze. He raises his brows curiously at your arrival. 

You smile and introduce yourself to him in return. Maximus nods and has a thoughtful look on his face, as if he is making a mental note of your name to his memory. As you look over the lake you ask him about the massive amount of butterflies in his territory and he chuckles a bit at the question.

"Ah, good to see that Julia is tending to the plants. My herbalist seemed to get the idea I look a bit like those butterflies and decided to plant some of their favorite flowers all around the territory- hence the abundance of our winged friends." Maximus explained with a gentle laugh. "My pack seems to have taking a liking to them, whether due to the similarities to my pelt or for other reasons. I suppose you can say we have a strong bond with these creatures. Despite how delicate their wings and bodies are, they still manage to soar to great heights and travel long distances. I only hope that we of the Conexus can do the same."

As Maximus explains the Conexus' connection to the butterflies you couldn't help but find it odd how a pack of wolves would compare themselves to such a fragile creature. Still, it was admirable in some senses as well and he did make a good point about the inner strength of such a small creature.

A comfortable silence falls between you and Maximus for a few moments before a rustling in the undergrowth behind the two of you captures your attentions. As you both turn you see a beautiful wolf with a patchy red, orange, and golden pelt accentuated with a white underside. She was striking to look at to say the least...

She gives you a curious look with her deep blue eyes as she dips her head quickly in greeting. "Ah, Maximus, you didn't inform me you would be having company today."

Maximus chuckles a bit at the patchy wolf's antics before turning back to you. "This is my Queen, Vita, she helps me rule Conexus." He explained before turning back to Vita. "Our friend here got a bit turned around on their journey, their company was a bit of a surprise to me as well- though not an unwelcome one." 

Vita nodded in understanding before looking down a bit nervously. Clearing her throat she spoke once more, "Well I do apologize for my intrusion but the Unus hunting party has come back from their excursion...they found something that I think you may need to see."

Maximus furrowed his brows curiously, noticing the anxiety that was present on Vita's face, he could tell that whatever it was the hunting party found had to be pretty serious. Nodding in understanding, the Butterfly King stands before looking at you once more. "I do apologize for cutting our meeting short, but it seems that I have business to take care of. I hope you can forgive me."

You assure Maximus that you understand and he smiles gratefully.
