Virtas Kitätuuli

Long ago when the world was young, there lived many spirits of the winds among the skies of the North. One of these spirits was Aptarca, the East Wind, and she had many children, lesser wind spirits.

Now Aptarca was always very jealous of the mortal creatures who lived upon the World she loved so much, and she grew hateful of them. Her winds would batter shelters, freeze life, and cast despair into the hearts of all who encountered them. Her children took part in this also, some aware and joyful of their acts, others merely following their mother.

It came to pass that the Highest, the many spirits who are yet one, and who made the World, saw need to stop Aptarca and her children's cruel acts. The Highest called the wind spirits before them, and finding they were regretful, still decided reproach was needed.

It was decided that not Aptarca, but her children, would descend upon the World in mortal form, to live as its creatures lived, and feel their own winds, ice and snow as the creatures of the World felt them.

So they descended, and were formed into wolves, the sacred creatures of the North and the winds. They had but little recollection of their former selves, and had to learn how to live as mortals. They formed the Virtas Kitätuuli, the Children of the East Wind, mortal wind spirits of the mountains. After many long years, the original wolves of the Virtas will ascend back into the Heavens to rejoin their mother, and tell her all that they have learned.
