The Cascades Pack

You've never been so exhausted in your whole life. Well, that's not entirely true, but at least you'd been warm. You could swear that the freezing raindrops swerved their way through the pines just to hit your already numb nose.
You stumble across a small cave near the end of a long day of traveling. Stepping inside the cave, you smell burning wood and cooked fish. A few paces into the cave there is a pale wolf sitting by a fire. The wolf's ears twitch in your direction, but they don't turn to face you.
"Come, come, sit down, traveler, before your paws fall off. Would you like to share my dinner?"
You nod, and thank the wolf. It's much too miserable for you to continue your journey. The two of you eat in silence. After a while, it becomes unbearable. In an attempt to spark a conversation, you ask how the fish was caught.
"Oh, I was taught many, many years ago by a hunter from these parts. Tell me, have you ever heard the tale of the Cascades Pack?"
You shake your head.
"Oh, they used to live in this very territory, until that terrible day..."
The wolf shakes her head. Her eyes meet yours through the flames.
"It all started with a group of weary travelers. Much like you and I, in fact…"
