Shrimp Heaven Now
I'm just trying my best and I hope my wolves never die
[I'M STILL IN THE PROCESS OF WRITING MY PACK'S STORY]
In its heart, this is a story about overcoming trauma and finding happiness in friendship.
THE BEGINNING
Leaving his original pack wasn't an easy decision.
He'd been thinking about it for months, spending most nights pacing by the riverbank, back and forth as his mind raced with all the possible scenarios. What if they find out? What if he comes back? Could he look him in the eyes ever again? Would he even want to?
The fear of being found out wasn't Gentlesock's biggest problem. Far from it, in fact. The worst of it all was that, could he go back, he would. He'd turn back time and change everything. A shameful decision he made in the heat of the moment changed his life forever, and in the beginning, he was stupid enough to believe it was for the better.
The shame and the guilt caught up to him quickly, and there he was, pacing back and forth.
Gentlesock always knew he wanted to be a leader. It's what he was born to do. It's what his father had done, and it was the only logical thing for Gentlesock to do.
But leadership wasn't a birthright where he came from. It had to be deserved. He had to prove himself, to his parents, to the pack, to himself.
Everyone always knew Gentlesock was one of the strongest candidates for the position. Being the current leader's son surely gives you some special insight into the job, right?
Only, Gentlesock's father was a kind and fair wolf. It's what Gentlesock always admired about him. It's what he was hoping to one day become. But deep down he feared he never would, because how could someone who wishes to be favored ever grow into a beloved leader?
No, there was no favoritism at play here. He'd regularly spend time with every leader candidate, teach them about how to organize a good pack, how to pick your hunters, where to find shelter for the long winters. He'd answer any question anyone might have had. Leadership had to be earned, and he was not about to hand it to Gentlesock just because he happened to be the one who carried his genes. His father loved his mother deeply, but he loved his pack, too. He'd always said he'd make sure they are taken care of.
