Lonepine pack
This place was protected by a spirit of vast knowledge and power. It would dance across the mountain range to survey its territory, feet only landing at the very peak of each mountain as it walked. This it did for thousands of years, blessing each mountain with each step, until the peaks became hallowed places, full of magic.
Eventually, the spirit exhausted it's natural power, and laid to rest in a deep valley. The spirit's body became stone as it slumbered, for it would only wake again in another several thousand years, when its power would again have waxed full.
It came to pass that a pack of wolves would travel through these mountains, hunting a new territory to stake. As they walked, a great storm struck the mountain, sparking a terrible fire. Frightened, the wolves would flee the fire, climbing desperately up the cliffs until they reached the peak of one mountain--
and to their surprise, the fire could not follow them there. Flame washed over the mountain, but the pack was left unharmed, along with one lone pine tree.
They turned their gaze upon this tree and thought it to be magic, and the wolves swore fealty to it. So this pack founded their new home, a place they called Lonepine.
