Lore
Long ago, before living memory, there were the six primal wolf gods. Inferni of Fire. Aquan of Water. Ventu of Wind. Terras of Earth. Moonin of Moon. Solus of Sun. Together they made the world, shaped to their liking. There was a fragile peace for thousands of years until war broke out. Was it Inferni that started it, or was it Aquan? No one really knows, anymore.
And the world dropped into darkness. The siblings Moonin and Solus promised to remain neutral while Terras joined the Fire and Ventu the Water. That was, until, Inferni captured the Sun. Time passes differently for the wolf gods. Seasons are hours. But for the gods, there was no sun and only the moon for years. Lonely, surrounded by tears Moonin cried for her brother. They sparkled in the sky cold and remote. For the mortals? Generations.
But it was not just Inferni that worked against the siblings of the sky. Aquan attacked the already weakened Moonin. Her pure white fur stained red as the Water snapped their fangs around her neck. The moon's glow was no longer white. But red, the red of blood on snow.
Meanwhile, Solus fought viciously against the Fire. Flames crackled off his fur, but it didn't matter to Sun. Teeth flashed. Light and sparks flew everywhere. Finally, Solus held and shook Inferni's throat.
"Stand down."
"Never! You don't understand, Solus!"
"I don't care about your arguments with Aquan. You always had a fiery temper, Inferni." Solus dropped the Fire, crouched, and leaped into the sky. Light exploded, covering the blood moon, and mortals, with slitted eyes, howled. It had been years since they had seen the light of the sun. And they cheered.
Moonin snarled, swiping at Aquan. Her claws fazed through their pelt of water, and she snapped, "You overstep Water!" Know your place!"
A mocking laugh, like the ocean crashing over rocks. "You have no idea, Moonin. It is coming! And Inferni will bring it faster." The Moon bared her teeth again.
"You linger here too long, Aquan. Leave the sky before I make you."
The wolf god of water wavered, then withdrew, perhaps more concerned about the Moon's thunderous expression than they let on.

Seasons passed. The mortals spoke of wildfires that sparked from nothing. The endless downpours. The earthquakes. The relentless winds. But the sun had not disappeared, and nor had the moon turned red.
Solus and Moonin paced along the sky restlessly. Finally, when they were near their swap, the Sun growled, "We need to end this somehow, sister. The mortals are getting killed for their squabble."
Moonin, thoughtful, nodded. "I think I have an idea, Solus."
That evening, the wolf gods met in the sky with the siblings. It was the first time since the war had started, that the four others were in the same area. Hackles were raised. Moonin, however, was calm, though Solus was restless.
"You four, need to stop this!" he snarled. His tail lashed behind him, sending waves of light echoing out behind him. It became green and blue and purple as it spread out. "You are killing the very mortals were are supposed to protect."
Moonin carefully interjected. "But we have an idea. Each of you. Find one mortal to give your blessing to. They will be your champion. Instead of you fighting and neglecting your duties, the champions shall fight for you. Only one. You have one mortal year to choose." She bowed her head. "And your time starts when Solus takes the helm in the sky."
The four warring wolf gods agreed, albeit slowly.
