Blue Spirit Pack
You stalk through the forest, checking out your surroundings, unaware you were being watched.
That is until you hear a quiet growl. Then another, and yet another. Eyes stare at you unapprovingly, before they snarl, lunging for you, about to attack. That is, until a nonchalant voice commands, "Now, now, that's not how we treat houseguests!" You stare in awe, a grey she-wolf steps out, blue eyes and blue and purple markings and decorations laced her fur. Her pack instantly steps back, bowing. "Sorry, your highness..." they mutter.
She sighs, shaking her head before approaching you. While she seems more friendly than her clanmates, she still looks pretty stern and wary, her fur bristling.
"What brings you to my clan, newcomer?
You sweat nervously as you explain your intentions, just exploring territory. Her gaze softens slightly as her fur lies flat once more, and for a moment you swear her eyes glaze over a silverish blue. "Alright, please, follow me. If you want to explore, I'll give you something truly worth exploring," she commands, her tail upright to show she's still serious about this, before leading you up the mountains, entering a small cave, which seems dull for the time being until you notice a dim, blue glow from deeper in the tunnels. "I'm Selene, by the way. Queen of the Blue Spirit Pack," she adds. You take mental note of this.
In awe, you look at the pack leader, who continues to walk ahead, and you follow. Slowly does the light grow brighter, and you grow more curious. "Where are you taking me?" You finally work up the courage to ask. "Soon, fellow traveler, is when I will answer your question," Selene replies.
Ominous. You're not sure whether or not you're scared or excited. Maybe even both! But you continue to trek forward, before finally entering a huge room, where a great blue stone lay in the center of. You stop, staring at it. Selene steps foreward, rubbing her paw across the cold yet smooth stone, before bright blue lines, the same hue of the stone, start to form intricate patterns on the cave floor, as well as the walls. Paw marks, claw marks, drawings of other wolves, stars and all paint a huge scene in front of them. Or several scenes. On the ceiling is where it all leads up to, as a giant rune, surrounded by several others paint the rocky surface above. Vines of white, dark green, blue, and purple all loop around several stalactites.
Your jaw drops. It's unlike anything you've ever seen before. Instantly you start firing your questions at Selene, who doesn't answer, and remains with a straight face, but a faint smile plays at the corner of her lips, a glimmer of amusment shining in her now icy blue eyes.
"Silence, and I will explain everything," she orders, and you shush, stepping closer, careful not to step on the lines. She notices your feeble attempts and chuckles. "You can step on them, don't worry, you won't set of any traps or anything. All we ask is that you don't touch the stone, if possible, it has an... unpleasant effect if you do."
Unpleasant? "What makes you say that?" You ask. "It shocks you with lightning. Touching it, or at least purposefully without permission, our ancestors take as a sign of disrespect and they punish those that try to steal it. With that said, here's where our story begins," she responds
"Many generations ago, a she-wolf struggled to survive, barely holding on, the only think keeping her going was her faith in believing things would get better, and the moon. She believed the moon was special, as well as every star in the sky," she begins, as the story seemingly begins to paint itself on the walls. "This wolf's name was Artemis. She didn't have a pack, not yet at least. One night, she prayed to the stars and the moon, begging for help to survive, as she knew she wasn't going to last long in a harsh winter. Soon, however, she's approached by tiny sparks, like stars, lighting a path for her. She follows them up to this very cave, ocassionally finding enough food to last her the trip. As she arrives, she approaches the stone.
Before her, it was dull, never said to have glowed at all. But this night was different. The rock glows like that of the sun in her presence, as if asking for her to touch it. So she does. And with eyes an icy blue, she's summoned into the spirit realm. There she meets the moon godess, Diana, who grants her special powers, passing her own magic onto Artemis. This makes her the new moon godess, yet she's sent back to reality, as she walked among the normal wolves of our time.
Over time, she gains a following of wolves, who all put their faith in the moon and henceforth Artemis. As time goes on, she trusts her pack long enough to take them to this very place to gain powers of their own, giving them a few of her nightly powers, such as enhanced strength, speed, agility, night vision, but the most prominent was the power to walk through dreams and talk to normal spirits. But we talk to Artemis, Diana, and other godesses and highly thought of ancestors through this very stone only. Even if we don't come to the stones every night, we always come once a month, when the moon is full, and talk to our ancestors and fellow godesses. But until then, we always howl a certain song as a prayer to them.
Every century, a new moon godess is picked. Usually they're the pack queen at the time, but sometimes it can stray off course. I'm the new moon godess, I fell into that century. I usually come here for guidance when I grow desperate for advice from my wise ancestors. But I don't rely on them as much as I thought I would before I took the position."
Your jaw drops and you can't help but to stare in awe. You're in the presence of a godess! You instantly bow, and Selene looks at you confusedly. "Oh- you don't have to bow. I'm not all that formal unless I'm around the other godesses. But I'm pretty chill," she shrugs. "Hmmm... do you, perhaps, care to join my pack?" She finally asks, looking at you, who nods. "Great!" She beams, ushering you foreward. Looks like you've got a newfound family to look forward to. And some cool powers, too!
