Plaguebearers

You see makeshift dens being excavated by the young paws of a team of eager adolescents keeping up the general maintainence of the pack home.
As you wander closer you notice some scruffily carved signs painted with... you don't want to think about the details, but some signs say "this den is pox free", "this den has been free of ear mites since..." the rest of the words are incoherent after being scratched over and corrected so many times.
A she-wolf wanders up to you, a scout, "don't mind the mess" she says, scratching her ear. You can see that she's lost some fur no doubt from whatever sickness she has. You step away from her, not wanting to catch anything.
"Oh, don't worry, it's only fleas" she says, noticing your hesitancy, everyone's had them at some point, "come, join us, it's only the fleas that bite" she continues before walking over to a sparse food pile "we're quite a large pack so itvs difficult for everyone to be well fed, however, that doesn't stop us from being well... actually our herbalist is one of the best" she barks, eyes alight.
