Mammoth Spring
THIS PACK IS TRAVELING WOLF FRIENDLY
Anonymously leaving wishlist gifts this year! Happy holidays!
Buddies
Mammoth spring started as a wolfquest group of close friends, and has evolved to spread across many games! We have a discord server (not open) and hunt together often. Some notable members include:
Anna, Compy, Jordan, Millie, Wolf, Chayse, Cyan, Target and Me!
I will only be accepting friend requests from members of the discord as a way to stay organized, but I'm still very open to being friends! Don't be afraid to dm about anything :)
Pack history
Bloodlines
π©π¦πͺ - Original lead
π₯§ - Non heir bloodline from Calluna
π - soothsayer (ddo)
ββ - Narny
β§ - Prophet
Beginning with dire wolves in the Cenozoic era, this pack has stayed together through evolution. They've gone from hunting mammoths, to hunting wild moose.
Though their appearances are much more modern, they are still (mostly) very large in size. They rule through kindness over hate, and believe in enjoying life to the fullest. Youth is valued and protected above all things.
There is such a trust between these wolves, a trust that shows through their leisurely ways. The territory is full of wagging tails on healthy bodies, and is always bountiful with pups.
Pack Territory
This pack was previously allied with Wormwood until the pack moved territories.
New ally with the future leader of Mammoth Spring
In the cold of Moota's third winter (as leader), word spread from the sooth of a threat of plague. The illness was spreading fast, and the herbalists hadn't yet figured out what it was. The leader from the wetlands had come to seek help, accidentally filling Mammoth Spring with the same curse. The rapidly increasing anxiety of the packs was only worsened with the death of two young pups, bringing the pack uphill to a decision. The smaller packs young leader decided it was time to move on to keep her pack safe, and so she left before any of her own could be infected.
The return of spring brought the sickness to an end, their bodies growing strong enough to fight it off without medicating. The loss of the two pups was hard to take, but Moota knew it could've been far worse. The following year saw an influx of prey, the forest having an entire pack less to feed. The uphill territory became a migratory spot for the largest local herd, opening up more land for other herds to move in.
The next winter was a strong one, and the next spring brought visitors. A small newly nomadic pack moving through the area was invited to the territory by party leader Ikyrian for a meal and a nights rest. The wolves exchanged stories and gifts, bringing Moota to realize how he missed the alliance his grandmother had formed uphill. He spoke with Sonder on the territory's edge, proposing the group stay and take over the bottom of the cliff; a space they had been using for travelers and training space for quite some time. Sonder agreed to a trial period and a later discussion, but later never came. The wolves have lived this way ever since, as if it's all they ever knew.
Resulting changes:
The distance between the territories now feels smaller, the reach of the scouts and hunters spreads further down the land. Traveling between packs has become SLIGHTLY safer.
Wolves digging tunnels in the earth below makes for a perfect hidden getaway in case of danger, also a very defendable position.
This pack is presently allied with Calluna Cove and is distant allies with Misty Timber
Pack Roles
The Alphas - The alphas are the leaders of the pack. Not only do they lead fights to protect their borders, dictate migrations, and serve the law, they also keep up pack morale by checking in on nursing mothers, watching over pup lessons, and occasionally assisting in hunts. There can be 1-2 Alphas at any time. (They will always be mates if there are 2) Alphas are identifiable by the fangs, claws, and bones they wear.
The Betas - Betas are highly respected in the pack, either for their bloodline, or their actions in life. They are tasked with watching over the pack as guards, and are often the first to have puppies in late winter.
The herbalists - There will always be 1-2 herbalists at a time. The eldest will primarily cover all duties, and train their apprentice in spare time. If the main herbalist is nesting, nursing, or sick, the apprentice will take over.
Zetas - Also called Party leaders, these wolves lead hunting parties. There is always one per each party currently active. They are considered honorary Betas and can serve any spot in the party. Marked by a β.
Pupsitters - A group of wolves who share a den or many nearby dens. Pups are left with them during work hours, and sometimes overnight. Though their work may sound unimportant, many of them are very strong and fast, and could easily serve as hunters.
Mentors - These wolves have gotten too old to work, or were brought into the pack as elders. They spend their days under the pupsitters protection and provide lessons to the pups. Pups are permitted to attend any lesson they want, but must choose a path by 6 months to begin apprenticeships.
Omegas - Wolves that have no place but to play due to overcrowding or lack of leadership. Many of these wolves will spend their time breeding, nursing, playing with pups or each other, and just adding a bulk look to the pack. No pack wants to attack a group of 25 wolves! Even when workers are out, the territory looks and smells full and alive. Their close bond with each other and the pack, plus their constant running and playing, makes them very good guards. They remain fast and strong, and know the territory more than the average pack member would. They also have stronger protection instincts towards their fellow wolves.
Princeton - Princeton is a pug that wandered into the territory one day and just started spouting mob boss bullshit at everyone. He lives at the very edge of the territory, and is given unwanted pups. If he cant pester anyone into buying them from him, he will eat them instead.
The Nest - The nest is a grove of trees the wolves build their nest in. They believe that the ancestors of the pack, riddled with feathers come down from the branches and paint the puppies in the womb.
Pup Burial - Only made up of 1-2 wolves who handle the dead in winter, and clean up old rotten food. They can live with the sitters or in the sick den.
Interpack Communicator - A messenger of the leaders. He/she handles important political messages between all of the alphas, and knows all of the packs plans and secrets. There is only one at a time.
Messenger - But wait,,, I thought there was already a messenger?
While he^ handles important messages between leaders, a messenger takes messages between all the wolves and pups of both packs. He prides himself on his good memory and speed. If a hunting party is already out and needs a weather warning, he's your guy! He gets his food through tips from each pack, and knows the lay of the land better than the average Beta.
He seconds as a search party leader in case of emergency. There are only 1-2 at a time.
Job assignment - It is very important that this wolf knows ALL the wolves well. They spend much of their time with pups and talking to their sitters, getting an idea of where to place them as apprentices when they're older. Though the final choice is up to the pup, this wolf is in charge of hunting party positions and splitting them into shifts and teams.
