Aster
Conflict between Sol and Cas was always inevitable, as Sol’s easygoing, open nature clashed with Cas’s closed-off behaviour and desire for control. This culminated in Val contracting the maddening illness, Cas attempting to take advantage and seize power, and Val turning to Sol in order to drive Cas back into the mountains. Without Cas there to act as a buffer between them, however, Sol began to fear what Val had become, and eventually left him and his group alongside Carnelian, Finch, Shale and Pine. Shale, the father of Moth and Beetle, died of an injury shortly afterwards, and did not live to see them born.
Unfortunately, Moth didn’t make it to the final Aster home; when she was a few months old she vanished, and nobody has seen her since. Privately, Sol belives that Valetude stole her, but was never able to confirm her suspicions.
The group eventually found their way to an area of the forest that hid a network of caves below the ground. In one of these caves was the Reflecting Pool, an icy mirror of the stars above, which granted Solstice a vision of two potential futures. The first was prosperous and bright, the pack large and well-fed, Sol old and happy beside her dear friends. The second was a promise of devastating failure, starvation, illness and horror, where friends devoured one another in the hope of sating a cruel, unceasing hunger.
Shaken by what she had seen, but determined to ensure that the first vision would come to pass, Solstice vowed to lead her pack toward the brightest future she could find- for better or for worse.
(Cas and Val belong to Tiger and Eldritch Oreo, respectively! Go visit them right now they’re very cool]
