Lillyfoot Band's Notable Lineages
There are several active "Royal Families" of the Lillyfoot Band: the Anaphora, Illustrate, Pentameter, Lucy, and Inversion Lines. Each name corresponds to a notable female figure in the Lillyfoot Band's history. As this would imply, membership to a bloodline is passed down matrilineally. While it is not prohibited, "dirty" breeding is somewhat frowned upon, especially between members of the same line. Interbreeding occurs predominately during periods when the pack can't regularly afford foreign studs and the male/female pack ratio is unequal. When it comes time to elect a new Lead, each Line puts forward one wolf as heir (with the choice to abstain or elect wolves being offered by other packs) and all presented candidates must compete in a variety of challenges.
During Lunar Events, when the threshold between the Living World and the Lunar World is blurred, the spirits of Lillyfoot's deceased ancestors interact freely with the living. During this time, the Matriarchs of the lineages are especially celebrated and given offerings by their descendants. The Lead Challenges become especially exciting if they fall around this time, with challengers having to compete both in this world and the Lunar world. A Lead chosen during this event may be more affected by the Lunar world and will find it easier to commune with ancestors, even when the barrier becomes strong again.
Arranged in order of Heirarchy:
Anaphora Line
4 Living Descendents ✦ Leaders: Voice
Oldest in the Lillyfoot Band, dating back to the pack's first Bonded Pair, Madrigal and Anaphora. No descendants of Madrigal exist, but her mate Anaphora, who also served as the first huntress, produced many good-looking and skilled pups with outside sires. Her litters, grandlitters, and so on continue to supply the Lillyfoot Band with some of its most prolific hunters and celebrated individuals. It is an honor to be of the Anaphora Line, and its members as a group hold some power over even the Lead Wolf. Even individually, the opinions of Anaphora's descendants hold a lot of weight. Common traits of the Anaphora Line include: gray and/or black coat colors, often with red accents; Merle is common.
Illustrate Line
24 Living Descendents ✦ Leaders: Satire, Homage, Canon
Most known for being hunters, the Illustrate line begins with Ballad, one of the first wolves in Lillyfoot and a contemporary of Anaphora. Granddaughter of Ballad, Illustrate cemented her place as a Matriarch through a successful hunting career. With 1009 stats at the time of her death, she was so dedicated to her craft that she did not end up having many litters. The three she produced were good-looking, high-stat pups, all of which were excellent hunters in their own right and continued Illustrate's legacy with their litters. Members of this family currently make up the majority of Lillyfoot's primary hunting party. (Illustrate's sister Theme was also notable for her role as Scout and as the mother to Pack Leader Satire, but there exists some debate that mothering a male Leader disqualifies one from being a matriarch. Because no ruling has been set, the Illustrate line may also be referred to as the Theme line, especially in the case of those related to, but not descended from, Illustrate.) Common traits of the Illustrate Line include: coat colors in shades of brown with lots of white markings; high stats.
Pentameter Line
14 Living Descendents ✦ Leaders:
Pentameter was mostly known for her looks and her Luna base, gifted by the ancestors from the Lunar Realm. Common traits of the Pentameter line include: Varied colors, merle.
Lucy Line
9 Living Descendents ✦ Leaders: Epizeuxis, Nostalgia
"Badger Mother" Lucy was invited in as a pup because of her rare badger coat. She and her descendants have mothered many rare bases. Common traits of the Lucy line include: Muted colors, Badger bases and other Tier III bases
Inversion Line
9 Living Descendents ✦ Leaders:
The newest bloodline. The daughter of Misty Morning, an Herbalist, Inversion was a stark white wolf with a rare base. Her decendents have produced many Tier III bases and introduced the first piebald wolves into the pack. Common traits of the Inversion line include: Gray and monochrome colors, Pied mutations, Tier III and Special bases
'Outsider' Line
15 Living Wolves ✦ Leaders: Juxtaposition
This is a nonspecific classification. These wolves don't belong to any distinct bloodline, instead hailing from Outsider wolves either befriended in the wild or bought in the Trading Center. If one family becomes rather prolific, whether through ability or progeny, they may form their bloodline.
Shakespearean Line {EXTINCT}
0 Living Descendents ✦ Leaders: Fantasy
The former Lead Wolf Fantasy belonged to this line.
