After a month I finally figured my goals out: Focusing on natural colors and high stats, breeding only on lvl 20. Wolves with mutations can be the only exception to this rule, but overall keeping to it. High gens don't matter as long as they're not inbred- wolves that are inbred end up as pupsitters.
