Biography
"Pups!" Topaz was roused by Heather's loud call. He opened his eyes, confused and sleepy. The dawn had not yet come: no light filtered into the cave where, rather conveniently, the pack's herbalist and scouts slept. The den was large and warm, the floor covered in pelts and ivy growing over parts of the entrance.
"Pups! Cinammon, Walnut, WAKE UP!" A pair of russet figures raced into the den. Even in his dazed state, Topaz couldn't help but admire them. The first was that of a scout, built for speed, agile muscles rippling under her striking, fox-like pelt. Her eyes were bright, almost unsettling amber, and shone with worry. Renard, the renowned scout of the Echo Pack, whom he and his siblings called Mother. Such a lover of her job she was, that she had allegedly accepted another scouting mission mere days after giving birth.
The second wolf Topaz saw much more often. Larger and slower, nowhere close to the speed of a scout or a hunter, was Heather. He was a herbalist, his fur too marked like that of a fox, his eyes dark amber like pine sap, and their Father.
His siblings quickly approached, tails between their legs, and Topaz followed them, blinking in the light. At the very top of the mountain pass beside their home, something bright and shiny seemed to flow down. It was Water!
"Ice melting from the Glacier. My contacts from the Tundra said it rampaged right through their camp. It's been growing less and less stable since the humans arrived three summers ago, but we never expected this," Renard explained, grabbing Ruby by the scruff. In no time, Cinammon and Walnut dangled from Heather's jaws and Topaz was stumbling after his parents, trying to keep up. Their strides were much longer, leaving him behind too quickly.
"Mama! Topaz can't keep up!" Ruby called. "I can walk. Do carry him, Mama, please?"
"Quiet. It's his own fault if he lags behind," Renard replied, as if he wasn't mere meters away from her, every word echoing through his ears. "You're much more precious than him."
"Renard, Heather!" A rather petite, dark-pelted wolf approached from the side. He wore feathered decor, and his fur had a bluish tint. Silent Echoes, their leader. "You got all of yours?"
"What does it look like?" Renard snapped, shoving her ears back. Topaz glanced behind. The Water! It had swallowed their den, approaching ever faster, straight towards them. He stopped in shock, staring at the massive wave.
It was Water, but unlike any he'd ever seen before. Dark and dirty, it had a smudgy gray color, and Topaz could see it coming closer... and closer... and closer.
And then, it swallowed him. Water filled his ears and nostrils. Topaz shut his eyes. He was going to die!
Please, great spirits, please let me live. I am so young, and I have not yet had a taste of life!
Please, Spirit of the Trees, bend yourself and stop this flood.
Please, Spirit of the Mountains, rise from the ground and stop this flood.
Please, spirit of the Fire, burn this Water away from me and stop this flood.
And please, Spirit of the Water, have mercy on me, a pup barely into this world, and stop.
Topaz didn't know how much time had passed. He only knew that at some point, the Water stopped and he retched it out, emptying his small, feeble body of the vile liquid. All around him, the earth was spotted with stones and the remnants of trees. Tall, lush grasses, light green in color, spread around him. Trees rose in the distance, but not the pine he had seen all his life.
"Young pup! Young pup!" Topaz turned to see a pure white wolf racing towards him. His skin was pale pink, his pelt draped with a cloak. He seemed... friendly.
"You poor little fox... got caught in the flood, didn't you? It's over now, I promise." The white wolf spoke with a strange accent. Was it Topaz's ears, so used to the gentle, soothing voices that filled the Taiga?
"You're safe now, little fox. I'll take you to my pack, alright? I'm Soul'step." Topaz nodded shakily, still staring at the wolf. He heard Soul'step murmuring something about shock and needing to take him to a herbalist. Gently, the wolf picked him, beginning his journey back.
Topaz stared into the distance, murmuring his thanks to the spirits. They'd saved him, after all. He was loved and cared for. This wolf seemed nice.
Perhaps he could start over?
"Thank you, Spirit of the Water," Topaz murmured, "For letting me live and bringing me here."

Newbie-Tuesday (#139758) owns this wolf, and may do as they please with him, however, as this is a gift, I would request that he not be sold, chased, sent away, or have his life taken by purposes unnatural, unless I am informed beforehand. Thanks!
