Daerona Moonwalker

Like her elder sister and littermate, Daerona Moonwalker was born early enough that her survival wasn't a sure thing, at the time. But where her sister was loud from the moment she came from the womb, Daerona was quiet. Her mother said she barely snuffled at all. So where they were worried for both their pups, they knew Valtris was a fighter from the start. It was Daerona they were truly worried about, her father said. That's why Daerona was certain she was able to get away with anything—she was her parent's precious little pup, the way all younger siblings were.

Daerona too had great hopes and expectations heaped upon her shoulders from a young age. Where Valtris was the pride of the pack, Daerona was the hope, the hope that if she could make it, they all could. She grew up knowing this expectation, but she didn't let it hinder her from doing as she pleased. Why worry about the future? That was Daerona's motto.

Together Daerona and Valtris grew alongside many other pups, all of them adopted into the pack either as pups or adolescents. They got along with many of them since they were around their age. (And because Daerona liked to think that though they were sneaky, they were charming in that sneakiness. Just like their father, as their mother liked to tell them.) Daerona and Valtris were the closest though, and that came from being littermates. If only they looked more alike, Valtris had complained, they could simply switch places with each other whenever they wished. But Daerona was born with a lighter coat than Valtris, and that was that.

When it came time for them to start apprenticing under a mentor, Daerona was initially unsure of what she should do. It was true she paid far more attention in her pup lessons than Valtris had, but Valtris already had a vision in mind for her future. Daerona was left to sit and think about it for a long time, until she finally decided to simply follow in her father's footsteps. She would make an excellent chaser, she was sure of it.
