Being the first child of the leader, Sand was expected to be strong and charismatic. This led her to develop a more militant and ruthless personality. However, her strength wasn't as intimidating as her posture or pride. She was forced into pupsitting duty as soon as her sister, Cold, was born the next year. She didn't resent her sister. Rather, she resented her mother, Flamebreeze, for what felt like abandonment for her. She took her small revenge by breeding with the breeding male without Flamebreeze's or deputy's permission. However, the grudge remains strong in her.
Sand finds humble wolves like Moth annoying because they just won't accept the compliments given to them. Sand views it as extremely rude and arrogant.
Sand loves, or loved, to go out and fight every single creature she can find, including hunting. Once, she even tried to attack a giant tree in a forest! She brags about her victory to her pack mates although no one really pays attention except for her few friends: Sun, Blue, Pond, and, of course, her sister Cold.
Because she was confined to the area near the den as a pupsitter, Sand snuck out during the night to fill her exploration needs. She finds that forest at night is much more vibrant and mysterious than the day. Sand meets an all black wolf that promises her they can make her an official member of the Lunar Wolves. Sand follows the black wolf's instruction and gathers Lunar Tears, chatting with various animals in the nighttime. When she gathered enough Lunar Tears, the black wolf asked Sand to choose her mark as the Lunar Wolf. One of them reminded Sand of her sister, Cold. Sand always wanted to be respected and popular like her sister, so she chose that marking. Now that she was a Lunar Wolf, she could see other Lunar wolves who roamed the night.
