One dark polar night, when Ynnary was just a little puppy he stepped out of the den. Everyone was asleep, the scouts were out on night duty, and no one noticed him slipping quietly into the Tundra. Excited, Ynnary set off to roam the vast expanse of the North.
By a rocky brook overgrown with red lichen he suddenly noticed a herd of reindeer; but unusual were these reindeers. They seemed to be woven from opal mist and their diamond-coloured fur was sprinkled with glacial powder, glowing stars stuck in their huge antlers.Ynnary was so young and naive, he had no fear or experience yet, so he cheerfully ran up to the herd of magical beasts, eager to play. And they did not punish him, nor did they vanish.
They brought him up into the sky with them, for they were the starry reindeer that travel across the sky from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere year after year. What and who Ynnary saw in the sky, he told no one since. In the morning he returned changed.
His fur became one of a caribou and his eyes got gilded with memory. He's never been the same again, longing for the reindeer to come and take him back.
