August was from the pack across the river, named after the starry sky: Pack Of Stars.

His mother, Snowfur, had taken them to the river to teach them how to drink from a rushing stream. He had gotten the hang of it by the time she said she had to go make dirt. His littermates, Tornado, Caribou, and Honey were there with him, laughing and playing and learning. None of them expected what would happen next.
