Beloved by him for her own intelligence and cunning, she came up with many tricks to attempt to keep the suitors at bay, hoping Odysseus would eventually return. Which, he ultimately does, and she goes on to make Odysseus prove that he is indeed him, to ensure he was not simply a tricky God in disguise.
