Born in the fifth spring of The Pack at Sanctuary
Parents: Lone Wolf(mother), Grayling(father)
Personality:Â --
Naming Conventions: 'Good Luck', Third Generation. Mothers almost always get naming privileges amoung wolves, so despite the fact that Cairn's mother, Carrion, was happy to hand her over to Grayling to raise without her, she did get to name Cairn first.
Carrion's family traditionally give pups names that are gruesome or morbid, as a sort of superstitious good luck charm (good luck being needed more by lone wolves like Carrion and her ancestors. The idea is that unpleasant names get the bad luck 'out of the way' or otherwise scare off spirits and diseases that might otherwise prey on a puppy.
Cairn was born to Grayling and a lone wolf, Carrion, in the Sanctuary Pack's fifth year. Grayling was quite smitten, and certain Carrion would join the Sanctuary Pack when the pups were born.
Carrion was under the impression they were having a fling, and was as baffled as Grayling was heartbroken when he asked her, and she rejected him.
Carrion broke things off a bit awkwardly after that, and they both agreed Grayling should take the pup- Carrion's life as a lone wolf made caring for a newborn inconvenient. Motherless, Cairn nonetheless has a cheerful upbringing and a large family, with Grayling eager to be a father, along with Cairn's attentive grandfather, Finch, her newly returned aunt Dace, and cousins in Perch and Kit.
