Axel had been roaming these forests as long as he could
remember, never seeming to age, when he stumbled upon Aura in the shadows of
the darkest part of the forest. He sat and watched her for a long while as she
lay on the ground. Her body and breathing as if she was sleeping, but her eyes
were wide open and…. Unseeing. Axel had never seen anything like it before in
his entire long life in these forests. Every other wolf he had encountered here
had been more…. Alive than this one. It was strange. Eventually, he got up and
padded softly over to the she-wolf, she didn’t seem to notice his arrival, but
still, he was strangely drawn to her. He touched his nose to her side to see if
it would make a difference and slowly she blinked as if she was finally seeing
things. She turned to look at him and he studied her eyes a moment, a deep green
like the leaves of the trees. “I am called Axel” he told her. She didn’t speak,
surely she knew her name? It was all any of them knew of the time they spent before
the forests. Still, she did not speak, something told him to touch her nose and
so he did. She blinked and then spoke, “I-I’m Aura”
For a while, it was just the two of them, roaming the
forests, occasionally traveling for a short while with other wolves but neither
of them ever bonded with anyone but each other. Until they decided to start a
family, Axel was thrilled when his daughters, Blot and Blitz were born and spent
every possible moment with them and his mate. Choosing to delegate tasks like
hunting and scouting to the everchanging group of wolves that always seemed to
hang around them. When these pups were barely weaned Aura and Axel decided to adopt a puppy, that their pups fell in love with and treated as if she was another littermate, as their own. After confirming with the pup's mother that she didn't want the pup, as most of their traveling companions didn't, they took the pup in and called her ______.
