When Duskleaf was first discovered by the members of Ashen Cypress she had been guarding the very young Ashbreeze and Nightstream, while also showing signs of being pregnant herself. She had been a pupsitter in her old pack, tasked with protecting the two pups at her side, and when the sudden wild fires had begun to raise the lands of her old pack the young she-wolf had acted on instinct to save the lives of the pups, her own as well as the unborn litter she carried.
Not much is known about the sire of her first litter, and the few times where the topic might've been brought up Duskleaf simply remained silent and refused to elaborate further. Talayazhi herself deemed it not important, and the small pack had welcomed them and their old pack traditions with open arms. There was one particular wolf, Bearpelt, who had become particularly closed to the she-wolf and her pups. Not only did Bearpelt mentored Nightstream, but he had also played the role of a father figure for Duskbreeze, Sunbreeze and Dawnbreeze as they grew up.
Although Bearpelt and Duskleaf could've often been found bickering, as their personalities constantly clashed with one another, there was no one in the pack who would ever doubt the love and devotion each held for the other... and many were sure the pair would've bonded for life had Bearpelt's life not come to an abrupt end by late Autumn of Y2 under the hands of humans. His death, as well as that of Ashbreeze and Nightstream, came soon after Duskleaf had lost her youngest daughter Dawnbreeze to humans as well... and while the she-wolf did her best to raise Duskbreeze and Sunbreeze to adulthood there was no denying the pain and loss that lurked inside her eyes ever since that day.
