Winfried has a solemn, somewhat morose look about him, but despite his serious looks, he is perhaps single-handedly responsible for reviving House Varley's good reputation in the Empire's social circles. A thoughtful fellow of poetical bent, Winfried has a talent for engaging his fellows in meaningful conversations, and he is both attentive and sympathetic to what others have to say. He does not shy from social events, and often accompanies his more gregarious (if waspish) mate, Madlen von Nuvelle. There is evidence that Winfried has grown somewhat henpecked since his bonding with Madlen.
