Balder

Named after the Norse god of light, beauty, love, poetry and happiness.

In the mythology he is the son of Odin and Frigg, he is also married to the goddess Nanna. Together with Nanna, he became the father of Forsete.

Balder's residence is named Breidablik, the location of a wide view. He also obtains the most beautiful ship of all, Ringhorne, in which he also was burned within.

Snorre Sturlason depicts Balder as the mild and good god, almost too good for this world, and the only myth that surrounds Balder is his death. His murder, plotted and executed by the trickster god Loke, is the foremost sign or omen of the end of time, Ragnarok.

Balder was bothered by his nightmares of his future and destiny. Due to this, Frigg made everything living and dead in the world to promise that they never would harm or kill her son, Balder. Loke became jealous of Balder's newfound immortality, and seeked vengance. As a trickster god, he shapeshifted into a woman and seeked Frigg, whom told him of the only thing she didn't ask to join the oath. The fragile misteltoe, as she considered it to be too young to ask such a thing of. Loke obtained a misteltoe after this and tricked the blind god Hod, brother of Balder, to use it as an arrow and shoot Balder with it. Telling him it would honour Balder's immortality. Hod did as Loke told him to and got aided by Loke in order to aim correctly, ensuring that the misteltoe would hit and kill Balder instantly.
