After her birth, she was taken to Gene on a whim by her mother, Ceres. Her reasoning? This was a grandchild of Saga. It's good to be cautious of her genes.
Gene had responded with intrigue, and rightfully so. She was the only one of her litter carrying a mutation gene called "brachycephaly", the first one in the pack, which only further fascinated the pack members. Bau, herself, was only told when she was an adol, as it was deemed something she didn't need to think over until then.
Once she learnt, she told all her friends about it. They were all interested in seeing what would be created by the gene. Bau promised that as soon as she was an adult, she would find out what her carried mutation would make.
Serapis discouraged this talk. He had travelled. and had seen brachycephaly pups, and knew what their fate would be. He desperately tried to convey his concerns, but Bau continuously brushed him off.
When she finally grew up, she was ecstatic. After birthday wishes from family and now-adult-too friends, she raced off into the wilderness, eager to fulfil her promise to herself.
She returned relatively quickly, just a day or two later, carrying a glowing pink feather. She was determined to see her children, and she wanted to see them now.

She wished she had listened to Serapis.
They had all thought it would be a fun shade or colour, like the melanistic and albino wolves that had passed through the pack. Not a deformed pup. Never a deformed pup.
She listened to Serapis now.
After her litter's birth, Serapis had left to find information for her. It took a day, but he returned. The mutation was lethal, and the pups would be lucky to survive until 1½ months, when Death would step in and take them.
Bau was devastated, and determined to do something. She went looking for a saviour for her children. In researching, she found an item that could save them. A Jellyfish. She set out, after assuring her children would be cared for. A bit unorthodox, but accepted given the circumstances.

One. She had found one. But one was better than none, and she was content with the knowledge that one of her pups would be saved.

One. She could only save one.
She had failed to find another jellyfish, even after scouring the world.
She had worked her damn hardest, and all her efforts felt wasted.
Her family tried to console her. She hadn't failed, saving one would be better than saving neither. Bau refused the comfort, instead wanting them to pass it to her children. The child that would inevitably die. She had to choose one of them, but she couldn't.
Well, Fate made the choice for her.
Bau had been gone for days at a time, other wolves nursing her children. When she had been home, she hadn't noticed that her prized jellyfish was gone. He had been struggling to move, but one dying pup had made his way over to the jellyfish, stored carefully in the cave, and had eaten it. Bau didn't know how to feel about it, the option being taken from her.
Serapis allowed her to choose a less than traditional name for her pups. Not gods, but demigod heroes. Heracles and Perseus.
Heracles passed, and Anubis, through Loki, promised the pup would be cared for.
