The pup who bled lunar blood
The older wolves believed that Gideon was either cursed or blessed with this trait from the spirits of the other world. When Gideon's mother spent her nights in an alien world, seeking the fortunes and knowledge promised, she was also preparing to whelp her second litter.
When that litter was born, some of the pups had lunar markings. Nothing too strange there. But one of the pups skin also had a blue tint.
When Gideon cut his nose as a young pup, the healer thought he had gotten into something. At first, this was scary to Gideon since the rest of the pack thought he was sick. After a few hours outside of his body, the blood turned the normal red of every other goodbeast in Wolvden and dried up.
With no access to the lunar world any longer, his mother said that they all would simply treat Gideon like any other pup unless something changed.
Of course this wasn't what happened, Gideon was an alien to the other wolves. The abuse was horrendous for a pup barely stepping out of the burrow. The adolescent Iktomi would bite him and slash him to entertain the whelps of Caline and get the she-wolf's attention.
By the time Gideon came to be a yearling, he was marked with more scars than even his mother. He never changed his personality from the abuse as a youth. But he quickly put Iktomi in his place the first chance he got, becoming close companions with Kota. He remained the kind wolf he had always been, only becoming more alert and skilled in dealing with new reactions to his glistening scars or the sparkling blue trickle when a new opponent draws blood.
