Nothing is known about Cathal's childhood, or even who his parents were. He doesn't talk about his birth-pack, his ex-packmates, or even if he had any siblings at all. In all aspects, Cathal's background is an enigma. He came to Cliff Peak as a traveling Priest, but took a strong liking to Clodagh. She greeted him with such warmth and excitement, even despite the looks of uncertainty on her pack-mate's faces. He holds that dear to him, and decided to stay and guide the pack onwards.
Clodagh and Cathal are very good friends, nothing more, with Cathal teaching Clodagh little trivia facts whenever they come across his mind. Even despite that, he does not bring her along when he leaves to explore the neighboring packs. He worries that something bad could happen to her if he did, and he'd have to face her mortality much sooner than he'd like to. He is dreading the day he has to say goodbye to all those he knows, but he dreads Clodagh's death the most.
Cathal is immortal, always has been since the moment he was born. Upon reaching adulthood, his body simply stopped aging and he found himself deeply connected to the stars and spirits of those that have already moved on. Past friends still come to visit him when he prays, and he finds comfort in their short conversations.
Cathal's role in the pack is their connection to the stars, and by extension their loved ones, and is revered as an incredibly important aspect of the pack.
