One of Polar and Bear's children. He was going to be named Icicle, but Polar felt compelled to change his name early on. When the pups' eyes were fully opened, Polar was shocked to find North's eyes a deep, chilling blue. However, just once blink, and North's eyes were gray as her own. Even with the herbalist help, Polar had no explanation as to what was happening to her son. That brief state of North's gaze reminded her far too much of the creatures from the Lunar Realms. She is watching over him closely, in fear for her son.
North, however, is unaware of this. Among his brothers and sisters, he's the most adventurous and outgoing, but also the most reckless. He's often the one to cause trouble by his puppish curiosity, which tends to earn him a lecture from his parents, Misty, and/or Hoar. This just makes Polar more concerned, as she's not sure just what is behind the anomaly of her son's odd gaze.
One day, when he was supposed to be training, North secretly followed his father Bear to the undiscovered tundra. He eventually lost track of Bear and ended up lost the cold open field. Then, when night came, he felt a strange warmth and saw a wolf, with its body on fire, facing at him. North fled as fire wolf pursued him, having to plunge into lake and nearly drown in order to escape it. Fortunately, Bear would find North and bring him home, but they were furious of their son, and would become more watchful of him. However, afraid of what his parents would do, and believing his experience to have just been a dream, North kept his encounter with the fiery wolf to himself.
North was able to convince his parents to let him train as a scout. However, his father will only take him to lands which have already been fully explored. North is jealous because Steam takes Fog to explore the Swamp, which hasn't been discovered. North is deadset on exploring the tundra again, just to see whether the fire wolf is still there.
North's wish to rediscover the tundra was fufilled when he encountered he strange wolf named Moonspeaker. She offered to take North exploring, and guided him to the same rocky part of the tundra where he'd seen the flaming wolf. North explained this to Moonspeaker, and she said that what he had experienced was no mere dream, but in fact, a vision from a place called the Realm of Passage. Apparently, someone is trying to communicate with North, and, perhaps, all of Rime from there. The Realm of Passage is where passages, beings of will created at a wolf's death, originate from. The goal of a passage is to fulfill the wishes of a wolf after their passing, though this is not the same as an afterlife, as wolves cease to exist after death. North remembered how his parents talked about Elk, and how he had helped them to defeat the nefarious Thermal even in death, now understanding that it wasn't truly him. Moonspeaker then stated her theory, that this flame wolf North saw in his vision is actually the passage belonging to their former enemy. Right then, North smelled flames over the horizon, and as they drew near, he could make out a wolf leading them into the field.
It was Moonspeaker who would then encourage North, not to run, but stay and observe. The wolf would go pass North to confront another wolf, this one leading powerful blizzard. The vision would end just when they clashed, and North demanded an explanation from Moonspeaker. But she was no longer there, as though she had went away with the vision. However, North heard Moonspeaker's voice, and a path lined with blue mist would lead him back to the mountains and his pack. North would speak nothing of his encounter to the pack or his parents, but a looming sense of dread pestered him to warn his packmates of Thermal's threat.
He would continue meeting with Moonspeaker during the night, when all of the other wolves were asleep. She take him to explore the tundra, but all that time, North experienced no new visions. Instead, Moonspeaker would ask him questions regarding his experiences in life. North would eventually bring up what his mother had told him, that when he was a pup, his eyes were a very bright blue. Suddenly, Moonspeaker, would stop interrogating him, and, eventually, just stop appearing all together. Conveniently, that was when Bear would finally decide to North to the tundra himself, seeing that he was old enough. But North was more concerned about Moonspeaker. Where had that mysterious wolf gone?
North is now patrolling as a scout. When he was sent to scout the Tundra, North discovered Moonspeaker again, but she was surrounded by mysterious blue objects, which were actually objects of Lunar Essence. Moonspeaker explained that she'd been meditating in the tundra all this time, waiting for himself to show up. Now that he is grown, she shares her revelation with him. She believes North to be Frost-eyed, meaning he is destined to lead his pack into the Frozen Lands. The flame wolf is, in fact, Thermal's passage, who aims to interfere with the journey of the frost wolf, which represents Rime Pack and its leader. It is North's mission to convince his mother to move Rime Pack forward, up to the unfamiliar, hazardous realm of the glacier, where Rime Pack is destined to dwell. Moonspeaker is at his side, watching him through the eyes of jewelwing.
After so many failed attempts to convince his mother about migrating, North sets out, together with his siblings Robin and Cub, to discover the glacier on his own. Several months later, North would trekking the tundra and stumble upon the glacier. But upon his arrival, he would be attacked by the Wolf of Flame.
It turned out that the Wolf of Flame had trapped North within the Realm of Slumber. Polar was able to free him from sleep by defeating the Wolf of Flame and, by the power of the Wolf of Frost, would cast North out of his dream. However, in the little time they had together, North would make one final plea to Polar, that he was already there at their land of destiny, waiting for her to follow. After this, he would awaken with his eyes changed to frost, just as they were when he was weaned pup. Moonspeaker then tell him to scouting the glacier, as it was still in his hands to fulfill his destiny, whether his pack followed him or not.
He would finally be reunited with his mother when she visited the riparian woods after speaking to the others in the tundra. Polar showed support for North's destiny, and was determined to bring the pack into the new land. Meanwhile, North would continue his training in the woods.
Soon, Rime Pack would arrive in the Tundra, and North rejoin them. Now that he was returned to his pack, North would take on different tasks to train himself for the glacier.
Now, according to Moonspeaker, North has finally finished his training, and is ready to begin his journey to uncover the glacier. Despite his brother and sister being too busy now at this point in time to accompany him, North still would not make the journey alone, as he and Char would officially pair off as mates, braving the glacier together.
Through a vision of the Wolf of Frost, North would learn that he was destined to become Rime's next leader. However, he is unsure of whether or not he's ready to take on this role.
Char would unexpectedly give birth to North's pups while they were still on their journey. Only time will tell if the pups will survive the deadly cold of the north, as both Char and North struggle to keep their new pups warm and fed under these harsh conditions. Despite this setback, North knew that he couldn't halt his mission. He would have to keep exploring the glacier, and come back only once in a while to bring Char food to sustain her milk.
Soon, North would have no choice but to bring his pups along with him and Char as they continued exploring the glacier. As soon as the pups could walk, the family would begin walking the trail together. They would stumble upon old droppings, a sign that a wolf pack had previously lived around there. Then, as they eventually reached a cliff, North would hear Ginger's voice and follow a set of old wolf tracks upon ground that was uncovered by ice. They would lead North to a narrow edge, which appeared to be a dead end. But as North recalled the waterfalls he discovered in the Riparian Woodland, he realized that he might find something behind the cliff if he went around it instead. And that was how he discovered the new rift, even greater than of the tundra and the perfect hub for a large pack such as Rime's.
With his destiny fulfilled, North would finally return to the tundra with Char and his pups, in order to lead Rime into their new territory.
Just as Rime was on the cusp of reaching the glacier dens, North would finally reveal his destiny to succeed Polar as leader. Steam would thus willingly turn over the role of beta to him, and following a battle with the followers of the Wolf of Flame, North finally lead Rime into their new home.
