Utchunquoyes

"Yeah, sure, you've got it all figured out! Pff... Dumb kid. Leave me alone."

You see this tall, lanky young wolf stalking away from a smaller female with a grey pelt. She follows him with her eyes, but stays seated with her ears pinned back in a show of concern. Utchunquoyes passes you by and scoffs, but he refuses to make eye contact with you.

Utchunquoyes was the first-born and largest pup from Tikaani's first litter with Conoco, a scout from Wapiti Run. Tikaani did not realize that she was carrying pups until well after she returned from her visit to Wapiti Run, so Utchunquoyes and his two littermates did not meet their father until a few weeks into their puppyhood. Utchunquoyes was a fairly happy pup at this point in his life, and he was thrilled to meet his father and hear about Wapiti Run and its wolves. For quite some time, Utchunquoyes wanted to become a scout just like his dad (and his grandfather, Ambrose). But, life had other plans for him.

Utchunquoyes became the unfortunate target of his uncle Tiriaq's cruel teasing and physical abuse. Tiriaq, only a few months older than Utchunquoyes, was usually careful not to bite in places that were obvious or that would not heal quickly. Even if he hadn't been, the threats Tiriaq made against Utchunquoyes' safety and that of his little sister Amonute would have been enough to keep the poor pup from speaking out.

Utchunquoyes was changed by the constant bullying from his uncle, which has continued into adulthood. Over time, he has become a bitter and sarcastic wolf. Utchunquoyes' mother, Tikaani, was also quite moody when she was younger, so she attributed his attitude to growing pains and family resemblance. Besides, the change was so gradual that she was not immediately suspicious that something like this was going on. Utchunquoyes' father was sure to check in, but Tiriaq's threats and the shame of being a target prevented the youngster from confiding directly in his father. It became a burden than he was determined to deal with by himself... Even if there was no end in sight.

When Utchunquoyes came of age, it was determined that he would not become a scout, but a hunter. To add insult to injury, the leader of his new hunting party was none other than Tiriaq.
