Elder Rakesh

Once known as Fern, the young wolf lived in a land of deciduous trees, crystal rivers, and bounty. He hunted and played with the other wolves for a year, when he had the sudden urge to leave. To leave behind the place of plenty in search of adventure. So, he wandered north to distant mountains, alone. His inexperience led him to the paws of enemies and left prey nowhere to be found. Fall, then winter. Hunger, fear, and sadness. Frostbitten, he came upon a red she-wolf under the full moon. The stranger could have attacked, but she beckoned him. "The moon has guided you to us. Come, rest." He followed without a word. He was taken to a den situated high up, where moonlight spilled in, white and clear. Inside rested many elder wolves and a distinguished adolescent- hardly seven months of age.
"Kayuqtuq, this wolf has travelled a long way under the guidance of those above. The moon has chosen for him to be here."
A grey and white elder spoke up. "Idalia, you were my apprentice only a few weeks ago. You are certain of the sign?"
"Yes." The red she-wolf, Idalia, spoke with stubborn confidence. "We are in need of skilled hunters anyway."
The leader, an old, brown, lavishly decorated she wolf looked down at him and nodded. "You will be known as Rakesh, as the full moon has chosen you."

He is in love with Elidi. Rakesh is very humble but overemotional, letting his emotions guide his decisions over logic. He is often timid and weak-willed, and lets those in authority push him around.

He has chosen Moira to take his place in the hunt upon his retirement.
