Glisse is quiet for a few seconds, but then, she murmurs, "I've known for months before my coming-of-age that Mother was going to appoint me as Beta. I've known for months that Mother was going to crown me Heir to Leadership, I've known for months!" Her hackles rise in her panic, and Zahn walks over to her and nudges her shoulder gently to show support. She seems a little bit more put-together when she continues; "Now that it's all happening, I feel like it's happening too fast."
Zahn shrugs, aiming for nonchalant. "Well, if that's how you feel, perhaps you should go out there and tell Mother that you can't do this, and you're stepping down."
"I can't do that!" Glisse looks at him like he's lost his mind.
"Exactly," he grins and dips his head. "So get out there and show the sanctum who their future is."
Something changes in Glisse's countenance then. She straightens fractionally, her eyes shine brighter, she gets that look about her that means she's had an epiphany. Then, the tension oozes from her body in a sigh, and she nuzzles Zahn with affection. "I'm lucky you're here."
"This pack would fall apart without good leadership. If keeping you believing in yourself is enough to stop that, then... Then I have a duty to fulfill, don't I?" Zahn nods towards the exit to the den. The sun-dappled grass beyond holds a pack of loitering wolves, all awaiting their future leader to come and accept her title.
Glisse stands tall, and she leaves without another word. Zahn watches her go with a proud smile. "My little sister," he says, "The Beta of the Greyhide Sanctum."
